After start windows98se, my proc have 65*C. I can see themperature of core, using thermal diode, from BIOS and HMonitor(). Themperature inside case 35*C, CPU: 65*C and up to 75*C!!! I use thermal paste with 25% of silver, VCore is 1.75V (by BIOS). What the problem? Why my CPU is so hot? I have: AMD Athlon XP 1800+ cooled by ThermalTake Silent Viking(p/n: A1267, up to Athlon XP 2000+, 80mm fan, ~2200rpm). Mainboard Soltek SL-75DRV5(system bus 133MHz). Power supply 300W. +additional 80mm fan in the case.

whats your room temperature?? It is best with AMD CPU's to have both a low front intake fan and a high back exhaust fan. Also to tie cables together so they are out of the way of the airflow.Judging by the case temp you need better airflow through your case

Well my 1800+ runs between 50-60C hottest I have seen it is 147F mainboard 105F. I have one 80mm intake at bottom of case pulling air in a stock AMD heatsink and fan ,350 watt antec power supply with 2 exhaust fans 1 under to pull and 1 blowing out the back. Take your cover off and see if temps go up or down and tie back all the wires out of the way to provide airflow. Sounds like you need an intake fan at bottom of case pulling air in

I have an Athlon XP 1900+ and my computer use to heat up pretty bad. I use a program called CPU Cool. It works really well. I run about 10C cooler than I used to. Average is about 50C now. I also run with one side of my case off just to keep it even cooler.

if your case temp is 35c and cpu is 65c to 75c then it's definitly a fan h/s problem. i'am running a xp1700 and my temp has never gone over 45c, even under load. my cpu temp is usually 15 to 20 degrees above case.

Thanks to All. Re peter: Room temperature is 27*C. My cables and wires tied together . + BIG HOLES(d 80mm) for every fans. Re Ron Watts: Different between opened and closed cover is 1-2*C on the CPU(temperature going down). Re MARS: Today I have changed my CPUfan for the same kind(ThermalTake Silent Viking 2200rpm/d80mm-new one) - no result: the same temperature.

My XP 1800+ with its retail provided heatsink+fan (one that comes with the retail box) and regular grease ( not the white silicone stuff) averages at 41 C at idle and averages at 49-53 C under full load ( 100% cpu usage) both running at night time with the left panel opened in southern california. I have only one case fan running set at 45 degree from the bottom up to blow air up through all the add-on cards toward the cpu area. Turn all other fans off due to no need when the left panel opened. Yes only one case fan and temperature with panel open still averages at 41C at idle at night time. If my cpu temperature averages at even 58 C, I would consider thinking whether I had put too much thermal grease on the heatsink or that I had not put an even layer of grease, or that the two contacting surfaces had not been throughly cleaned enough. But be aware that Artic Alumina needs at least 50 hours of usage for the temperature to drop to the final lowest temperature it can offer. In my opinion with just the retail provided heatsink+fan, the temperature of more than 59C even under 100% cpu usage with the left panel opened running at the hottest time of the day in southern califorina is still high for just a regular heatsink+fan.
