I was just wondering what computer is considered faster and better for gaming. Computer A: Athlon XP 1800 (1.6 GHz), 512 DDR, G4 4800 video card.
Computer B: Intel Celeron 2.7 GHz, 512 DDR, G4 4800 video card.As you can see the only difference between the two is the processor and I know the Celeron is more GHz but I've heard multiple times that Celeron aren't the best for gaming. But even with that being true, would the Celeron perform better with the higher processor speed than the Athlong? Thanks for the help.

I would say that the celeron would probably perform better just because of the 1.1 ghz discrepancy. If the difference between the two was more like 600 or 700 mhz i would then choose the AMD.
With that said u should also be looking for the better bargain.intel/pentium brand cpu's generally cost more than AMD's.So another important factor is price. If u can get the amd machine for 75-100$ less then, I myself would buy the amd.
MSI K7n2-delta ilsr mobo
AMD 2800+ 333 @2225 mhz
2x512 matched DDR 2700
WD 74gb 10000rpm sata HD
nVIDIA G-Force 2 Ultra
SB Live Platinum
Kenwood 72X cd-rom
MSI 52X24X52 CDRW

Well my mom is getting buying the Celeron but she told me she is willing to trade me if I wanted because she is only going to be checking e-mail and stuff like that. So price isn't a problem. I just need to choose strictly on speed.

Celeron = Shizer
Q-TEC 550 Watt PSU
MSI VIA KT4AV-L
2800+ Barton 512 DDR333
GeForce Fx5200 128Mb
Aero 7 Lite
80Gb Samsung ATA133 HDD
120Gb WD ATA100 HDD
LiteOn LDW-851S
LiteOn LTR-52246S

Celeron is load of crap, stick with the Athlon
Clockspeed isn't everything, it's how it performs and Athlon preforms much butter than the Celeron

Celerons are mainly for people who surf the net, IM, check email, and download a lil bit.
Personally I do not recommend Celeron's to anyone (not even people who do the above...). I had one in the past and they frankly suck, especially when playing games.
I'd get that AMD.
TECHZAPORT OUT!!!

The cpu throughputs of those machines are about the same, but the memory bandwidth is the real problem as the celeron is constrained about like the 1800+ would be if it ran ddr200 memory.

I'm using a laptop celeron right now which is 2.4G. It sucks compared to my AMD. Get AMD XP or Intel P4 and don't settle for anything less.
When all else fails beat the $%!* out of it!!!

since you said that money is not an issue. I think you probably will be better off buying an athlon xp (barton core) cpu or intel pentium 4. I think compare athlon 1800 with celeron 2700 is a little hard.

I would choose Celeron 2.7 GHz than the 1.6 GHz Athlon XP.
Why? Because Celerons are much cooler than P4 and AMD, and much cheaper than P4 and AMD.
The only disadvantage of a Celeron is a 128KB L2 cache, but, if Intel would increase the cache, then probably, it will match P4 and AMD.
Anyway, I read some article stating that mobile Celerons have 256KB L2 cache.

Athlon XP all the way...Celeron's suck
There is no turning back, now that you've woken up the demon in me...

The celeron is an interesting invention. Sort of like a Chevy Suburban with the engine of a Chevy Chevette. Intel does not want to step on the market of the real cars they make, but they do want to capitalize on those who want to feel like they own a Suburban at a discount.
Some people buy what they think is good, some people buy what they feel is good. Intel is so big that they are dumb to not go after both customers. Amd continues to target only thinkers.

Go with AMD they are better for gaming. celerons blow.
AMD XP 2500+ Barton
512mb PC3200 DDR
80gig Seagate Baracuda + 10gig IBM
64mb Geforce 4 MX440SE
ATX Custom Case w/ 300watt power supply.

I'd say a 2.7 celeron would run faster than an 1800+.But for the same money why not go ahead and bump the 1800+ to a 2200+ because it costs the same as the 2.7 celeron and will tear it a new one.

Bigjohn8888 is right! AMD's are "usually" cheaper than Intel's!
Celerons (Intel) compare to Durons (AMD), and Athlons (AMD) compare to Pentiums (Intel).
One does NOT compare a Celeron (regardless of speed) with an Athlon!
It's like comparing a VW with a Porsche!
Moral of the story: Buy the AMD!
