Hi, my computer will reboot at random
(1 Ghz Athlon, 512 RAM, GeForce2
MX-400, Win XP Pro)

After it reboots I went into the BIOS and
checked to CPU temp, it said 69
(celsius).

Im no expert, but seems a little hot. Is it.
Could this be causing my reboots?

Thanks.

Yeah that could be a really bad problem, if you reseat the cpufan and it still is like that then keep it off till you buy a new heatsink/fan. I had problems around 140 F, and yours is 160 F.

I highly reccomend a little program that shows you your case and cpu temp in windows with your fan speed and other usefull stats..

Maybe the problem is not only heat but also your power supply. How many watts is it?
It shouldn't be less than 300W...better if it's 350W

Hi,

Make sure you have a good heatsink and fan installed correctly.

Also make sure you have enough ventilation inyour case. See AMD's site for help on this.

An AMD technician I spoke to about temperature suggested MAX 50c for any period of time and a motherboard temperature of 30c MAX.

I have a 1.4 TB it runs at 44max and the board is always at 27c.

If you run too hot you risk killing the CPU

If you read the AMD site, it states that the power supply should intake air from the bottom, not the side. This gives better airflow and cooling.

I've been trying to find an accurate opinion on my system. A7V266E, AMD XP 1800+, MCX462 HSF, the Asus probe reports 53 degrees C. This seems really hot considering I'm using what I've been told is quite an awesome hsf. I've got 5 case fans too. Case temp , 32 degrees C. Any help would be appreciated

Hi guys,
I'm not sure if this will answer any questions or not. I use a program called SiSoftware Sandra and I run my computer 24-7

Anyway I run Winxp Pro, 1.2 Athlon TB , 512mb DDR Ram, 64mb Kyroll 2 chip for graphic card. Anyways my temp right now is :
Board Temp : 16.0c / 68.8f
CPU Temp : 26.0c / 78.8f and the voltage is : 1.79v

I do a lot of rendering in graphic work as well as play a lot of online games. ex.MOH.AA...

I have an Athlon XP 1700+ not o'c. Using the Soltek SL-75DRV4(KT266A) motherboard and a Thermaltake volcano6cu CPU fan.. I get around 55 degrees when web surfing. is this normal???? I also used some thermal gease on the CPU die when I installed the heatsink. I think it helps the heat transfer.

I have an Athlon XP 2000+, 1024MB DDR ram, geforce3 ti500 with CPU and Graphic card overclocked. My cpu temp is around 53 degree C with thermo engine HSF, so I tried Volcano 7+ with 7000rpm (silver thermal compound as well!!) still around at 50 degree C. So I feagured every Athlon XP processors make more heat than other CPUs. I believe around 50 degree with Athlon XP processor is pretty much average...

Hi everyone, I ran across this forum, and just like to post my system spec. I have an AthlonXP 1600+ that produces 43 at normal operation; however, after i upgrade the fan on top of my heatsink to 7000rpm, which produces more noise, but i was able to overclocked it all the way up to 1511Mhz and the temp is around 41C after extreme gaming. Anyways, I am using the GA-7DX motherboard, Hercules 4500 TVout, 256 DDR memory and Maxtor 40.0gig hard drive.

To be safe, even though it is very stable at 1511Mhz, but i just leave it at 1470Mhz, which is equivalent to the 1700+ model. That's a little information of my system. I hope that can help you guys.

Couple of things. First of all Everyone shouldnt be too worried about their temps, there are a couple of things that could have happened.

1) Your fan/heatsink wasnt installed properly, or the airflow in your case is bad. I do not have a link but i read that you should not have more fans blowing in then blowing out, as it causes high pressure, and heat dissipation is less in high pressure.

2) Incorrect tempature readings. The probe on most mother board (at least on mine) is underneath the core attached to the mother board where, once the CPU is installed, there is no air flow; the temperature readings that you are getting are probably a few º off. Most of the time People using water cooling have a problem like this, because the probe isn't near the cooling device. I forget the page but i read about putting a "temperistor" or something along that line being put into the heatsink (drilled a hole) giving more accurate results. However, DO NOT ATTEMPT this without proper devices, as a normal drill or whatnot could severly damage the heatsink.

3) I was interested on this topic so i browsed a little until i found this:
http://www.cpuscorecard.com/cpuprices/feature_comp.htm
It gives a lot of info about the current CPUs, including MAX Temp.

4) BTW i currently run a Athlon TB 1.13 Ghz, 256 PC2100, GeForce 3 64 DDR, w two case fans, one in on side panel, and one out behind CPU. My idle temp is 42ºC and about 46º after playing most games.

I hope this helps.

I am running an Athlon XP 1800 on an ASUS A7A266 with latest BIOS, with 512M DDR and using a VOLCANO 7 HSF in a super tower.

My average temp for the CPU is 48C or 118F. The MB runs at 33C 91F. Athlons always run hot as they have with the SLOTA processors.

The SLOTA 900 that I have has burned out 3 HSF's. It would almost seem that a large 1 FAN like the GOLDEN orb is better for the SLOTA than a fancy 3 fan cheapy. Sure the 3 fan looks nice, but almost always burns out.

For the Athlon XP, spend the money for a VOLCANO 7 or a Swiftec. Just make sure that it will fit on your MB/CPU without interfering with CAPS and such.

The Standard HSF from AMD is quite wimpy when compared to a VOLCANO 7. DON'T BUY CHEAP HSF'S.

20 Extra on a HSF is better than replacing your CPU or CPU/MB because of heat damage! Think of that cost.

Greetings,

Im running a AMD XP 1800 on a ABIT AT7333 with 256 DDR-333 using a very noisy `Silver Mountain` HSF (7000 RPM) and i get a temp of 44.5 at full load. Now is this ok or should it be lower ?.

Hi... I'm running an AMD xp 2000. I use the MBM5 temp and voltage monitor. The hs & fan came with the cpu. I also use a non-conductive shim. The mbm5 reads the same as my bios. I'm run 44-48C depending on room temp. My board (GA-7VRXP) runs at about30-34C. I think these are a bit high, however AMD says the max temp is 90C. I can't find any info about the board's max temp.

In my system I can get the case/motherboard temp cooled to 2-4C above room temp with 2 case fans. One fan sucks air in from the front and then the other blows it out the back. My CPU temp is usually 25C above case/mb temp. If it is > 26C in your home/office your CPU will be much hotter than if your home/office temp is < 22C. So don't expect your computer to stay cool when it is 80-85 F in your home/office.

I can't get my idle temps below 55c or 61c w/gaming. Using silver2 and have tried Pal8065, Pal6035, Zalman5000+, etc. No change. Also case fan in and out. My MB temp is always 28c or so. Very strange. Any thots? Yes installed correctly . Using a xp1600 (not oc) and Asus a7v333.

I have a Athlon XP 1800, 512 DDR 2100, ATI Radeon 7500, With the Volcano 7 HSF, and I am getting 53C/60C for the cpu and 33 for the case. The case has a fan blowing air in at the front of the case, and blowing air out at the powersupply. The vent is not on the bottom in the case. Do you think that when I play games that the reasoning behind it freezing well playing a game is because the cpu is getting too hot? Should the cpu fan be blowing into the heatsink? I have changed mobo's, changed video cards, and still it freezes. Any Ideas?

for all the good things i read about the athlon xp it doesn't seem to like my fic ad11 board and eminates a smell that is probrably causing brain cancer...

for those of you suffering with your xp tempature try a utility called vcool.

oh well back to the duron and bottlenecking my gf4 ti4400. Why did i ever buy into the hype and leave intel- at least i didnt have to worry about my apartment catching on fire
