I was out helping my friend choose a 939 motherboard to go along with his Athlon 64-E processor and wondered if he needed a BIOS update first before installing it onto a 939 motherboard. Well what came as a surprise to me is when I got responses back from the different motherboard companies I contacted saying he doesn't on certain types of 939 motherboards. So here is a list of 939 motherboards that you don't need a Bios update prior to installing an AMD Athlon 64-E processor. There maybe more motherboard companies out there that will support AMD Athlon 64-E processors without a BIOS update first, but these are the companies my friend were interested in.

Note. This doesn't mean you shouldn't update the BIOS as soon as you get these types of motherboards to take full advantage of the new Venice/San Diego cores, this is just means that these motherboards will be able to post without any problems.

Soltek - 939 K8T890/nForce4/nForce4 UT/nForce4 SLI motherboards.

DFI - 939 nForce4/neForce4 UT/nForce4 SLI motherboards that ship with BIOS v3.10 & above.

Asus - 939 nForce4/nForce4 UT/nForce4 SLI motherboards.

Rule no1 Upadte bios on a brand new rig if one exists.

Rule 2 Update bios on a brand new rig if one exists.

Rul 3 follow rules 1 and 2.

Hmmm Intersting stuff Cobra !!!

It seems asus forgot to mention that the NF4 and NF4 SILI wouldnt even boot up on the first 939 's a special bios fix had to be writen almost over night, mine wouldnt boot first time eather, not to mention that when it did it was very twichi.

But as soon as the next bios update was loaded it was fine. I think it just dpends on what bios version is on the board at the time.

IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT

Well I know for a fact DFI nForce4-D LANPARTY series will boot with the AMD Athlon 64-E, because a buddy of mine online bought this motherboard and the AMD Athlon 64-E version and he said his posted fine. As for the rest of the DFI nForce4 motherboards I got info off the website via tech support.

Asus told me the samething, so I don't know maybe they had a revision of their bios chips since when you bought yours. But I dunno.....

Yeah they did cobra !!

My rig I only built a few weks back but the board had the first release bios in it, ( not to many got sold when they were first released the price they were asking was moronic ) I payed about $270 AU and the initial release price was $450 AU, which was the version they wrote over night and I mean over night, cos the review site who was doing the testing couldn boot the board correctly, so thet asus engineers were working around the clock to get it right.

But the latest production batches do have the new relaease thats probably why they said that.
