Comment:

PROBLEMS APPEAR to be affecting Athlon 64 revision E chips on some Nforce 3 and Nforce 4 motherboards. Symptoms include motherboard shut down and failure to boot, according to reports here from CeBIT.

Revision E chips from AMD are just released and brings stuff like SSE3 support inside a 90 nanometre die. AMD on the other hand didn't make a big noise about its announcement.

We learned that if you have this Athlon and already have Nforce 3 or Nforce 4 board that there is a big chance that you may encounter problems. We are told that AMD changed its thermal regulation protection and that's what makes it incompatible with at least some of the Nforce 3 and Nforce 4 boards out there.

In order to solve these problems, new motherboards might be necessary and there doesn't appear to be an instant fix.

go to start/run type dxdiag and hit ok. You will see the direct X window appear. In the system tab look where it says Processor and you will see next to it the list of media instructions like MMX, SSE, 3DNOW etc... The new AMD Athlons 64's that just came out now have SSE3 media instructions on them. If you only see in there SSE, SSE2 then you have the older AMD Athlon 64 processor.

Funny how they didn't mention KT890 motherboards. I guess they don't have that problem like Nforce 3 and 4 motherboards do.

Unfortunately my AMD64 is still in it's box.Saving for the mobo and 6600gt.
Hopefully new mobo's will be available when I've saved up.Really leaning towards the NEO4 but hear about ram issues when Oc'ing, people seem to think that it's a bios issue as they can oc with clockgen(I think it's clockgen?).

Yeah but those issues should be fixed with the next Bios update if they don't already have an update for it already.

I don't buy motherboards when they first come out because of what you mentioned. I give it a good 3 to 6 months after they come out so that the company can fix the bugs out of that motherboard.

I'm really shocked that AMD didn't do a lot of testing on these revisions before releasing them.

Does the box tell you rather or not it's SSE3? If not go back and trace it to where you bought it from if you bought it online. If there still isn't any info then I guess you are going to have to take a chance and if you do have it and you and install it and nothing happenens then you know the root of the cause.
