What is the best CPU/Mobo for the 64 bit Athlon? Is there anything that overclocks like the 2500+ Athlon? Is the lower multipilers unlocked on the 64 bit Athlons?

Thanks

Yes, the multiplier of the Athlon64 with Cool'n Quiet are only fixed at the high end. This allows the board to underclock the cpu to keep it cool if you don't need the additional power.
If you want a totally unlocked Athlon64 you have to go for the FX55 but it's a bit costly!

About overclocking the Athlon64 3000+ Winchester (Socket939 - original 1800MHz) is really nice to OC. Got mine up to 285MHz (2565MHz) with the original boxed cooler and read in a magazine they even got it to 300MHz where it beat FX55 and P4 3,46GHzEE.
The trick is to lower the HT multiplier so you stay within the normal 1GHz range and to lower the ram clock to 133MHz which goes up with OCing again. So at 300MHz you again reach 200MHz ram clock.
My system works quite good around 260MHz FSB with a 4x HT multiplier and the ram set to 166MHz so in reality it's clocked to 216MHz. But that depends on the ram you use!

BTW: I use the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum.

Do all 64 bit Athlon have the same core? If so wont they overclock all to the same speed? Also does anyone know of a detailed website with all the multipilers, voltages, fsb, and stuff about 64 bit Athlons?

Thanks

I have my athlon64 3000+@2.7 gig its rock stable at 2.8 and have had it at 3.0 for a short time with my ac on the pc with no side on the case. To tricks are like weasel said lower the memory to 133 or 100 if you have pc 3200 and make sure you put ht at 3x this is with msi neo2 plat.
Good luck
