hi, to whoever is nicenough to look at this post will you please be able to help me with this. i have an athlon xp 2200 in my system at the minuite and i have a sempron 2300 ready to do what ever with so should i install it into my system, but i am a game player and i hurd athlon is better for gaming because of clock speeds
Welcome to the World of Warcraft!

The AXP runs at a higher clock speed than the Sempron (1800MHz vs 1583MHz), but the Sempron has the faster FSB (333/166MHz vs 266/133MHz).
If you're running PC2100 (or PC133) RAM, there's nothing to debate...the RAM won't be able to keep up with the Sempron, so the AXP is the way to go.
If you have PC2700 or better, it's a tough call. There are advantages to the faster FSB that may make the Sempron the better choice, even if it does run at a lower overall clock speed. And if you're able to overclock it, it would probably be the way to go.
To throw in another twist...if you're running the AXP with PC2700 (166MHz) or better, it should be setup as PC2100 (133MHz) anyway. There's no advantage to running the RAM at a faster bus speed than the CPU.
Hellz Yea!

well ok i am running 2x 512MB DDR 400 with the AXP so what do you think over all i will get the best performance out of?
Welcome to the World of Warcraft!

Regardless of which CPU you use, your RAM settings in the BIOS should be manually configured to run at the same bus speed as the CPU. So with the AXP, your DDR400 should be setup to run as DDR266. With the Sempron, it should be setup to run as DDR333.
If would help if you listed your motherboard make/model & your video card too. Personally, I'd go with the Sempron & overclock it.
Hellz Yea!

right well i have,
Athlon 2200
Jetway V400ADB
1GB DDR 400
80GB 7200rpm HDD
GeForce 6600 256MBbtw my motherboard isnt very easy to overclock :S i havent sused out how to do it yet, my asrock was easy but wouldnt hold my GPU
Welcome to the World of Warcraft!

so overall what do you think will be best, overclocking will be a good idea but im not sure how good my motherboard will hold it. a mean what difference will the FSB make to the clock speeds?
Athlon XP 2200 ~ 1800MHz ~ 266FSB
Sempron 2300 ~ 1583MHz ~ 333FSBThanks for the help :)
