Comment:

I recently bought a computer that was supposed to be an Athlon 2000, but when I check my system info it says it's running at 1666 mhz. Is this normal or did I in fact buy an Athlon 1600? Was I ripped off?
Please help! get back to me at pcyr@cogeco.ca as I have no idea how I got to this page in the first place!

A 2000+ runs at 1.67 MHZ. The 2000 means that it is running as well as other cpu's that are 2000 MHZ.

Actually AMD processors now are released by models.......eg.Althon XP 2000 is referred to asthe model but the actual processor speed is different.....(1.67 GHZ)But believe me AMD processors pack a great deal of performance.

It is the correct speed.

Your machine runs at between the speed of a Pentium 4 2.0 ghz and 2.1 ghz(400mhz FSB, not the newer 533mhz).

Athlons out perform Pentiums on a mhz rating. But Athlons are at their peak of design at a lower mhz rating due to the different way they work.

I have an Athlon 2000XP and I'm very happy with it!

AMD chips are named after the speed of the intel models, which AMD claim to beat.

Yes I have an Athlon XP 2100+ runs at 1.73ghz ( not overclocked ) and it outperforms a P4 2.6ghz, so believe me even they are clocked lower in MHZ they are extremely fast, and when it comes to gaming you can't get better
