Hello all I put a Athlon 1 gig cpu into a Asus A7V-E MB. According to their website they say they support this cpu. But when I boot it up It shows Athlon 750mhz. WHat I am wondering since for some reason I cannot update my bios. What I am wondering is even though it shows 750mhz, it is actually using the full gig & thus a cosmetic flaw

Have you indeed tried to update your bios and it wouldnt let you? Some bios's have a security option that you have to disable first and then it will let you update....virus reasons..... What exact BIOS is on your m-board?
Dennis

You can download software that will tell you how fast your processor is running at. If you would like me to direct you to a site where you can download it or i could send you one just email me.

Neither is your problem, i take it your FSB is running at 100mhz (7.5multiplier) put your FSB to 133 and u will get the 1.0ghz out of it (7.5*100= 750; 7.5*133= 1000)

The Bios Version is 1003. When I tried updating it it came up with some message saying that the bios it found couldnt be updated or was invalid. If I have to diable the bios virus thing then I can try that. I'll also try uping the fsb to 133 to see what that does, but won't beable to for a day or so as it be snowing.

i had same problem & tride evry think didnt work i send it back to the shop for replacment and the new one working fine

I have the same config as you do and I saw the latest bios for the a7v-e is 1004 and can be located at this addresshttp://download.asus.com.tw/mb_dl_menu.asp
for Asus. You may have to go to
http://download.asus.com.tw first and then
select motherboard and then select A7V-E. The only prior bios listed there for this board seems to be 1002b, however, I have 1002d. I have never heard of 1003 for this particular board.

Set your multipler to 10 on a 100mhz FSB. I have the same board and the multipler goes up to 12. I believe the Bios only allows for an increase of the FSB to 113, but 100x9 multipler would get ya 1017 on your cpu which should run fine. My Duron 900 runs at 908 out of the box.

The problem is because the Front Side Bus of the A7V-E is by default, 100MHz which is supposed to handle 200MHz FSB Athlon procesors. You most probably inserted a 266FSB Athlon 1GHz CPU so it's running at 2/3 of its rated speed.
If you really want to run at 1000MHz, get a 200FSB Athlon CPU.
