ASUS Probe is the motherboard/CPU monitor that came with my board.
When i was in windows the other night it shows the cpu temp at 35°c but when i backed out to the bios, the bios showed 40°c.
I'm toying with the idea of overclocking so i need exact numbers.
Any Comments or Suggestions ?

i would suggest getting a update for asus probe. it fixed mine where it would show the same as the bios.

I think motherboard and software monitoring methods are both off. My mobo constantly reports lower temps. If having an exact temperature is important for you, then you should buy a temperature probe and stick it by the cpu (one of my computers has a case that comes with the probe built-in).

You are absolutely correct. Chances are motherboard, BIOS reporting temps are either low or high, seldom correct.

I have an Asus A7N8X Dlx with an AMD XP2800+ that came with Asus Probe. The A7N8X has three temperatures that can be measured:
1. Motherboard (Case)
2. CPU Socket (located under CPU socket)
3. CPU Diode (located inside CPU)Asus Probe displays the Motherboard and CPU Socket temperatures.
The BIOS displays the Motherboard and CPU Diode temperatures.
If you want to see both CPU temperatures try Motherboard Monitor.

Case 35
CPU Socket 52
CPU Diode 64

I also made bad experiences with PC Probe.
Download "Motherboard Monitor 5". It worked good until now.
VCool is also very good and also cools the cpu by shutting it down part of the time when it's not at full load. The only problem is that it works only with VIA controllers and a few others!
