Comment:
Hi,
I have an Asus P5AD2 motherboard. For about three months the cpu temperature as shown in the BIOS is getting up to 124Celcius. I know this information is wrong as from time to time the temperature goes down suddenly to 35Celcius before going up again after 5mn or hours of utilization. Reading a bit on the internet I found that the sensor should be in the cpu, so I decided to try another cpu. Same result.
What do you think could be the problem? I'm not overclocking the cpu. I re-installed several time the heatsink with the thermal paste. Same result.
Thank you

Your CPU would have shutdown long before hitting 124C so you're obviously not getting an accurate temp reading.

Are you checking the reading in the BIOS or are you using software? If you're using software, it should be Asus PC Probe.

Here's the direct download:

ASUS PC Probe V2.23.06 Install Program for Windows 2000/XP/2003

Thank you for you reply, I am getting the same information from the BIOS and Asus Probe. Could there be a problem with the motherboard?

Check the Asus website to see if any BIOS updates are available for your board. Read the list of "fixes" to see if temperature reporting errors is one of them. If it is, update to the latest available BIOS.
