CPUs P4 2.6Ghz 800MHz FSB & P4 2.4GHz 533 MHz FSB
ASUS P4P800
Promise SuperTrak SX6000 Raid controller
1024 DDR Dual Channel rated to 500MHzWhen I boot the computer sometimes it hanges with a blank screen. If I turn off the power and then try again it will come up with an error saying "overclocking failed press F1 to enter setup or F2 to continue with default settings. If I use the default settings it appears to work fine untill I try to reboot the computer again and it hanges once more. What I have noticed is by using the intel frequency identifier tool my processor has been underclocked to 1.3 GHz 400MHz FSB. I can get the problem to go away and run at 2.6Ghz 800MHz FSB if I remove my computers Promise SuperTrak SX6000 raid controller. The computer will then boot and run like normal. I can also prevent the system from crashing and giving the overclocking failed message by changing the external frequency setting to 100 in BIOS and changing the DDR ram frecuency to 266MHz. But this is unacceptable because then I am underclocking the cpu and ram. I am also having this problem on an identical machine with the same hardware except it is using a 2.4 GHz 533 MHz FSB CPU. I have tried 3 different kinds of memory as well. I would think this is a memory problem but it is only being caused when the controller card is installed. Can somebody please help me ASUS and Promise both do not have an answer for me. Thanks.
P.S. I added this post to both the general hardware and CPU/Overclocking forums b/c I could not figure out where it belongs. Would you recommend me just buying a new RAID controller and if so which one. I am only using IDE RAID 0.

Which processor are you running? You are complicating everything.

I am running 2 seperate machines that have the same exact hardware except one has a 2.6GHz 800MHz FSB P4 and another machine is running a 2.4 GHz 533 MHZ FSB P4. Both of these machines are having the same exact problem when I install the promise Supertrak SX6000 raid controller.

I have the same problem, same mother board P4P800-Deluxe and same 2.6 MHz CPU.
ASUS support do not work week-ends, which is when I need them the most.
I read in another article that by changing the bus speed to any value different from nominal (e.g. 201 MHz) the problem is eliminated.
I do not know how is that done but I'll find out in the next hour.
