Hi,
I've an ASUS P4C800 Deluxe motherboard and I have the following scenario when I turn on my coputer:

(when qucik boot (in the BIOS) = disable)

1 - 3 beeps (indicating number of USB's connected)
2 - Shows in the screnn result of tests (for aprox. 5 secs)
3 - Short beep (just before booting) and then boot from op. system.

No problem in the op. system. Can it be a memory problem ? or is this behaviour just fine ?
Does someone have an ASUS motherboard with the same behaviour or knows what it means ?
Thank you.

Don't understand your questions? If the system boots into o/s what is the problem/question?

The beeps normally come from memory being recognized. I don't think it comes from USB. You could select USB function by BIOS, or O/S, i.e. select BIOS when using wireless usb keyboard/mouse.

Hi real_cool and thank you for your answer,
The first beeps come indeed from the USB's (as ASUS told me) (the board recognizes them). The beep just before booting is my question . Maybe a Memory error (?) (however it doesn't show any message on the screen). If you have an ASUS motherboard you can probably see it by seeting Quick Boot option to disable.
Thanks
Avi

You got me worried now. I've had this motherboard for about 3 months and have never had any problems running Windows 98se and XP. I disabled quick boot and it came up with a RAM R/W test failed at 202MB. It beeps twice, then 3 times. Eventually it'll beep once and then continue. As I say I've never had any problems with it, and any diagnostic program seems to indicate 512mb (which is fitted) in dual channel mode. The memory is PC3500 OCZ in two 256meg sticks. What should I do to prove my memory is OK?

Hi James,
I need to know some more info about your problem:
1 - How many USB devices do you have connected ?

2 - Are the first 2 beeps and the other 3 the same frequency and duration ? (I mean they sound the same or of different type of beeps) ?

3 - Does it happens always or eventually ? How many beeps in case it happen eventually ?

I have 3 USB connected, 2 rear and 1 via pins on mobo, but this isn't where the 3 beeps are coming from. I've never disabled the quick boot on this machine from new, and I've just discovered I've got a faulty stick of RAM. The test for one stick fails at 74MB with a RAM R/W test failed message. Now, the mobo manual indicates that 3 beeps = main memory read/write error. I removed one stick and the system reads up to 256MB (which is right), goes into a 9 second countdown (ESC to bypass) and then beeps once. With the other stick in, it beeps twice, then 3 times failing at the 74MB mark. I ran simmtester against each stick fitted individually and one fails at 74MB and the other passes all tests. I have 2 x 256MB OCZ dual channel RAM Btw.
So...what you should really have is just the one beep for a successful post. You may even have a faulty stick of RAM like me if you are hearing 3 beeps. This machine now just beeps once when quick boot is set to disabled and this is AFTER the first screen which now has no beeps (having removed the duff RAM)
I was wondering why things were crashing sometimes, and now I know! If I hadn't have seen your post I wouldn't have known. Looks like I'm gonna have to RMA this one....
I hope I've been of some help to you as well.
Cheers chap..

James

BTW the beeps are the same and the same duration, but only with the duff stick fitted. What is your RAM counting up to? Is this right for your memory as I'm sure you have a duff stick like me !?

Hi James, I'm happy my post was helpful.
I've double checked with ASUS about the USB beeps and they told me it's a new feature of Ameritrends BIOS (maybe I have a different version than you (?) (I know in the store the made some update to it, maybe you should check if it is updated (with their application)).
About the memories:
It says that there's no problem, I am just afraid about the last beep before booting (after the 9 seconds), because in the manual says it should make no beeps (however it "seems" ok, and also you are experiencing the same with the good stick, so I guess it's ok (what do you think?).

Bye

Avi

Hello. I think it could be a later BIOS feature. I know I flashed my BIOS with the latest one back in August when I got the mobo, but not since.
All the PC's I've ever built or owned have usually beeped once to indicate successful POST. If I switch the quick boot back on, it doesn't beep. If all seems well with yours, then I guess just sit back and enjoy. Windows will probably become even more flaky than usual if something is wrong. This mobo is probably the best I've ever owned! Top job Asus.

Bye
James
