Will this motherboard support the Palomino core Xp's?
-Thanks

Sure it will, but I wouldn't recommend getting that board. Not because it's bad, but you'd be much better off with a board based on the nForce2. Not only is it faster, but it will have more overclocking options & may even be able to unlock the multiplier on your Palomino.
I suggest the SHUTTLE AN35N-ULTRA. Outpost.com has em for $55:

Thanks YOYO, and thanks for the link Jam, looks like a nice board for the price.
BTW, how can a motherboard unlock a Palomino? I didn't know that was possible with this core.
Furthermore, are there any good software coolers for the nForce2 chipset? I have heard of vcool for via, and it may possibly work with the nForce, can't remember where i read that. I know about CPUidle, tried it with my k7s5a, didn't work though. I guess i'm just curious about software cooling ability between the ASUS and Shuttle boards.
-Thanks again..

After reading various reviews pairing the kt400 againts the nforce2, i decided the nf2 was the better performer(as you pointed out Jam).I went ahead and ordered the SHUTTLE AN35N-ULTRA from outpost.com
-Thanks Jam

Good move - you won't regret it.

Palominos still require that you unlock the multiplier by physically linking the bridges. This was usally done with window defogger repair paint. I've never done it, my Palomino 1600 had a low enough multiplier that I was able to just use the FSB on my 8K3A+ to run the chip up to 1.8 or so. I liked that chip, but my 1700 thouroughbred that I replaced it with was good for allmost 2.4 GHz. It is not multiplier locked.
My Palomino now has a good home in a KT7E that machine I built for my cousin running at stock speed.

The nForce2 chipset does unlock the multiplier on the early Tbreds & Bartons, but the neweset cores are "superlocked". I'm not sure about the Palomino, but it can be unlocked as repoman said. I considered trying it on an old Duron I have, but I could barely see those tiny bridges...lol. Get a good magnifying glass if you wanna try it. If I remember correctly, you just connect all the L1 bridges
