Hi there,

This is my strange problem. I have an AMD 2200+ (1800 Mhz)(I know it have the multiplier unlocked right out the box) with ASUS A7V8X with 512 DDR 2700 at 333. I was able to OC it at 13,5 x 148 FSB with 1,65 V and I reach 2000 Mhz without problems but then I try this: 11 x 166 FSB (I want that FSB for match the bus at 333) and this weird thing happens:

I save setings at setup and I go out and the computer posts well and I enter Windows98SE without any problem and I run Sandra or Aida32 and I see a great BOOST in performance there so I was happy BUT each time I restart the computer it don't shows even the PCI video card info at the top of the screen (old one S3 Virge 4 MB LOL, but I'm waiting for a Gforce4 AGP) and I can't enter setup and nothing. I have to turn OFF the system and when I turn on it again all is well and I can enter Windows or setup. So the problem is that to stay at that 11x166 (1900 mhz) I must turn off the computer and then turn it again. that is WEIRD!

If the system is stable at that OC why I have to do that each time? I try changing the Vcore to 1,7 and 1,75 and is the same but I think I don't need to change it becuase at default 1,65 the system works fine and the temp didn't rise that much (about 40C) so I'm sad that it seems that I can actually OC to 166 FSB but I can't use the restart or reset the system for stay like that and I'm afraid that maybe this can damage something here. If it don't start well each time something strange is happening inside there. mmm...

Please can you give me any advice on this? My problem can be the video card and when i make a soft reset the video can't handle that FSB and hangs and that is why I don't see nothing?

The computer make any sound, just the fans, and the HD led stay ON until I turn it off and start it again. There all start to work until I make other soft reset or restart windows, damn!! I also try to change the DDR timings without luck is the same. What can be the reson of this strange behaviour? Thanks for any help! Fercyful

again me :)

the mhz I reach with 11x166FSB is 1826 and not 1900 sorry for that =) (but the computer is faster than at 13.5x148 2000mhz) here I try to much combinations I think and that is why I make the mistake. This it turning me crazy!

I'd like to chime in on this with a few questions, as I plan on picking up this board and using my existing XP1800+. I'd like to get the processor up to 333, but am afraid of the repercussions. Any help would be awesome, so on with the questions.

Does this board have the ability to lock the PCI and AGP bus speeds? I don't want to ruin them with overclocking.

What kind of cooling are you setup with currently? I'm using a Thermaltake Volcano 5 with the copper base. Even then I'm running at ~50C unoverclocked. Pushing up to 55-60 when I bump my multiplier to 13.5(133@1795, 1.7 Vcore). Im hoping I'll get better temps with a newer board(Asus A7V133 ATM) and Im unsure if it'll be better or worse with a FSB OC instead of a multiplier increase. I'll probably pick up a slot fan too.

Basically, Im just trying to find out what I can expect with this board and the TBred processors OC'd.
