System Specs:
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
AMD XP 2400+
512MB Kingston Hyper-X PC3000
Western Digital ATA 100GB HDD
GeForce 2 MX400 64MB AGPBrand new PC trying to install my Windows XP Corp. The BIOS is able to recognize the hd. I am able to boot from the Windows XP CD. I deleted and recreated the partition and was also able to format the drive. After formatting, the setup files for XP are loaded and then it prompts to reboot. After rebooting and going thru the POST, I get this message. "Unable to load operating system".
I read some other posts where people with Western Digital hard drives are having trouble with the A7N8X mobo. WD and ASUS suggested setting the jumpers to a certain setting on the HD, which I did. I also disabled SATA on the mobo since the hd does not support it.
I have no idea what to do next aside from getting a RMA and shipping the mobo back. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help with this problem.

Yeah my friend had a similar problem with his brand new system on the A7N8X Deluxe and a Western DIgital HD it wouldn't boot when the HD was set to master we had to set it to the jumper to auto detect.

I had a prob with my WD 120GB and P4T533-C, do what Methos reocmmended, set the drive on cable select.

I have the same motherboard and a WD hard drive also and I found that booting from CD didnt work to install XP Pro either. I tried messing around with settings but I eventually just downloaded the floppy images to install XP and that worked very well ( although it is painful to sit around and be a floppy monkey )

I already tried setting the jumpers to CS on the harddrive but it didn't work. In fact, I've tried all jumper settings and nothing changes.
I'll try to install from the 6 floppies when I get home tonight. I know how painful it is but I'm about ready to use the hammer method on this thing.

if you are using only one drive on the IDE chain that the WD hard drive is on you should completely remove the jumper from the drive. You Do not need it if you are only using ONE hard drive. I just went thru sort of the same thing with mine. Once you do it should work fine.Take care RSG

Thanks for the reply but I tried it with the jumper removed as well. In fact, I had it set that way to begin with. I have not flashed the BIOS for this board yet so I'll update it to the current version and see where that gets me. If not, those serial ATA Hard Drives are looking better and better.
