Hi,

I have a Asus a7n8x Deluxe mobo and an XP 2000+.
As soon as i set my fsb to 133, my pc crashes as windows boots. I have 2*256 mb of PC2100 running at 133 mhz.
I mailed asus and they suggested setting my memory frequency at 80 % and my cpu fsb at 133, but then my computer didn't even boot, all i got was a black screen.
It's definetely not a temperature problem here, since i've got an ALPHA PAL 8045 heatsink with a papst fan on it, and 2 casefans, with temp running 40 C.
I've also tried using only 1 memory stick or not using the dual memory mode, but nothing seems to help.
I've read an old post about a guy who had the exact same problem.
Anyone?

It could be the ram..what brand is it?? always get corsair or kingston. you can try to put the cas and ras latencies higher when you try to turn the ram down to 80%. same when you try to go to 133mhz fsb.

Not lower 'higher' if it's 2 turn it up to 2.5 if 2.5 turn it up to 3 same with the other latencies. lower is faster with cas and ras latencies, like a ping.

I concur. It might be the memory not functioning properly try and find an other type of memory (friend, work, etc.)

But its propably something else... Systemp perhaps?

BIOS update could help (doubt it)...

If I understand correctly it works in lower FSB... tricky.

Take all un nessesery stuff out of the pc PCIcards, diskdrive (if haven't allready tried) Try another display adapter if having one at hand. Switch off ATA support, usb, onboard audio, onboardLAN, Everything you don't absolutely need to just boot. If none of the above helps the problem is narrowed into northbridge, CPU or PSU. -> serious trouble.

If you have allready done all this please tell us.

Ok,

I've tried setting the cas- and raslatencies higher, but still the same... computer won't even boot.

As for the things Steam suggested:

-Systemp is ok, i have a ALPHA pal 8045 heatsink with a Papstfan on it, temp is 30-40 C.

-I have the latest biosupdate ( i have rev 1005 mobo, latest update only fixed a problem concerning large data transfer in raid0, but i still installed it )

-i doubt it's the PSU, i have a enermax 450 W, should be no problem.

-i will try taking out and disabling stuff tomorrow, hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies!

I took out my soundcard and disabled everything i could in the bios => still the same.

Tried a memorystick i borrowed, same type of memory, only CL2 instead of CL2.5. that didn't work either...

I'm getting pretty desperate here, anyone who still has a trick up his sleeve?

I've found the problem. Apparently it has something to do with my vcore voltage.
I have a thoroughbred, according to the AMD site it should run at 1.6V. But when i changed this to 1.7 or 1.75, everything works fine.

Is it ok to leave my cpu running at 1.65 , 1.7 or 1.75 instead of 1.6V?

Depends on the temperatures. If the temps stay down its ok.
