Hello,

I've been trying to remove the cpu from the heatsink of this laptop here with no luck. I mean this thing is FUSED to the heatsink, and I'm beginning to wonder if they're just inseparable. Through my trials, I accidentally got the Arcticlean Solution I was using on the actual pin part of the cpu, and it started going all in between the pins. Is this bad? I have no idea what exactly this solution does, and am wondering if i need to be cautious. I immediately took my duster can and attempted to air-spray it all out.

The laptop is a "Sager" model 5600p, if it helps. Anyone also know if cpus and fans can be inseparable?

I apologize for double-posting, but I had another question. Basically the cpu "popped" out of the laptop when it came out. That means, the lever was down, not up, when it was removed. Honestly, I see no way possible for that lever to stay up as long as the heatsink is still attached to the cpu. My next question, is it possible for me to put the cpu back on the socket without having the lever up? It came out in the first place, any reason why it cant just go back in?

I know...I've probably ruined the whole laptop *laugh* (not really laughing...).

Thanks guys,
J

you will probably bend or snap the pins if the lever is down. What the lever does it push another pin against the cpu pins to get a connection and securing the cpu to it give it ago but dont PUSH TO HARD otherwise your buggered
good luck

I wouldn't worry about the AS cleaner...it just cleans.

You need to carefully get the heatsink off the cpu. Don't try to reinstall with the lever down...period.

Warming it up will usually help; a hairdryer or laying it out in the sun are a couple of ways I've accomplished this. Most heatsink tapes get soft enough to do their job at about 60°C (140°F) when new. I've heated these things well past comfortable to touch and carefully twisted while prying to get 'em apart.

Tools I've used include hairdryer, heat gun, sunshine, sunshine with clear glass bowl cover, tounge depressor, credit card, kitchen knife, dinner knife, butter knife, razor blade, utility knife blade, hardwood shims, acetone, paint thinner, lacquer thinner, a pot of nearly boiling water, bourbon, brandy, and beer.

The bourbon, brandy and beer was for me.

Needless to say, be very patient and very careful. Light steady separation pressure and light steady twisting force is the way to start...increase forces a little if no progress is appaent.

Best of luck...let us know how it turns out.

Deep freezing would achieve the same goal.
