Hi ppl I need some help in purchasing a new heatsink. My computer room can rise up to 40c in summer so i really need a good heatsink for my cpu. I live in australia so it's really hard to find good heatsinks for eg. slk-800. All i can find is thermaltake and cooler master heatsinks. So it would be greatful if yo guys can help me find a good decent fan. Thanks in advance.

My preference for a heatsink:
1) use of regular 80 mm fan (so that I can replace, pick and choose the best there is)when it dies.
2) copper heatsink not far from recommended weight by processor maker.
3) good mounting design so that I don't have to take the motherboard out to clean or dust off the heatsink.
The guy in Australia (dansdata.com) gives excellent cooler comparison. Or, pay a visit to Auspc market.
Get a case like Lian-Li PC65 or similar that provides excellent case ventilation without a dozen case fans that could take off with your computer. As a really good heatsink will only get more heat out from the CPU into your case.
I know what you mean "the 40C day". My youngest kid spent a year in East Africa (College), the average day time temp was around 35 to 38 C. Cyber Cafe shuts down 4 hours daily from 2 to 6 because of the heat.
Here is one that is better than SLK900.

So, you do have other options.

"All i can find is thermaltake and cooler master heatsinks"
then get the heaviest thermatake all copper sink that comes with a variable speed 80mm fan, then lap the sink yourself. 400, 600, then 800 grit should be fine

Totally agree on lapping. Mass produced heatsink and "low cost" (or maintaining the cost structure)will never give you the desired surface finish. Any heatsink will benefit from lapping.
As user of the heaviest heatsink, I stay away from because of motherboard mounting and other restrictions. There are good reasons behind the weight specification by both AMD and Intel. This is strictly a personal preference.

I hate Thermalright because of ALL their lies. My proccessor which is oced by 200mhz goes upto 51 celcius under load when my case is closed, and thats with 4 fans. My cpu is athlon xp 2000+ oced to 2200+ 1.8ghz from 1.6ghz.
I hate thermal right s---ty liers.

heatsinkguy if you went to Phantom of the Opera on Broadway with a head cold and stuffy ears afterwards you would call all the reviewers liars since you could barely hear the show.

It seems to me someone who proclaims themself to be a "superhero" & takes the name "heatsinkguy" would have the coolest running machine in the forum. What's wrong with 51C under load anyway? You suffer from "temperature paranoia". I'll tell ya what though...my overclocked 1800+ is running at 23C right this minute & I'm using a cheap Coolermaster HSF & only 2 case fans...hmmmmm...maybe I should change my name? LOL!

Hmmmm...how about MasterCooler? LOL!
Back to the original post...what wrong with the Coolermasters? They have quite a line of products...

O Boy! Another superhero thread...that's entertainment folks.
Can I be TtCOOLall_guy?
to the rescue?

"The greatest super hero alive answers now..
I have a tornado 119 cfm fan on the slk at full speed. The cpu temp is hot because the case temp is 40 c."He is suffering, can you see?
Sorry, I just can't help it.

Hell, I use a stock coolermaster with no problems. Think I'm gonna spend bucks on a hi-end hsf for a duron1300?

How do you harness them...two-by didn't give enough air and a four-by harness kept putting the left gerbil into the vid card fan. Ugly...inside of my case looked like a "JoeCartoon" video.
