Pretty interesting. If AMD does this this then Intel will once again take a back seat to AMD.

sucks for intel. i personally have no problem with competition but it is getting pretty tough not to mention the fact that in a few years there will be nothing to compete over because we will have reached the limited of what we can do with a processing chip

oh i have been wondering, cobra. does your name mean that you own an SVT Cobra R? or something else?

acutally i just read that article. what is the point of THAT?? why would they biuld a processor with more then one core then tell it to act like only one core? if a couple years games will begin to be optimized for multi-core CPUs anyway, then that will be a useless gesture...

Reminds me of the Voltron Force from two decades ago.

Actually, this may not be a bad idea, the kicker that I foresee at this time is for the system to be able to quickly and effectively adapt, anticipate and react accurately based on ALU demands of the different tasks on the PC.

In another development, just a couple days ago, AMD's A64 and Opteron adopted HT protocol's newest revision (3.0) was released by the Hypertransport Technology Consortium. The most obvious change for HT 3.0 is the increase in the data rate clock from HT 2.0's maximum clock of 1.4GHz, to 2.6GHz in HT 3.0.

"in a few years there will be nothing to compete over because we will have reached the limited of what we can do with a processing chip"

They've already hit a wall in terms of GHz, that's why they've gone to dual core...now that have to convince us that we need it so we keep upgrading. And judging from all the recent posts from people who are jumping on the dual core bandwagon, they're succeeding. Quad core CPUs are just around the corner (2007) & Octo core CPUs aren't far behind them.

"oh i have been wondering, cobra. does your name mean that you own an SVT Cobra R? or something else?"

Yes that's what my name means. Love that car.

I look at it this way. The more these 2 companies compete to be the top dog in the processor sector much like what ATI and nVidia is doing in the gpu sector, then this will continue to be great news for end users. The more these companies porduce newer chips the more the older chips go down in price.

It's a win, win for us consumers.

Can you imagine if there were no AMD or ATI? Intel and nVidia could still be selling even their budget line at a mid-range price.

you own an SVT Cobra R?? dude, that is awesome. first second or third generation??

anyhow i think this is ridiculous nobody needs all this freaking power. so weve hit a clockspeed barrier now what is there gonna be five years from now? 12-core CPUs? 10 years from now means 24 cores? i mean come on, it gets to a point where further power is a waste...

Sounds to me like amd is getting a little worried, but when conroe arrives prices will start falling and that can only be great news to the consumer.
