Can anyone supply me with step by step instructions on OC my AMD Athlon64 3200+ (its running at 2.02GHz) to 2.4GHz? Is it possible? Here are my system specs...
AMD Athlon64 3200+ (2.02GHz)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (overclocked some)
Kingston 786MB (PC3200)
120GB Western Digital 7200RPM SATAAbit KV8-MAX3 mobo
AMD Athlon64 3200 CPU
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Western Digital 120G 7200rpm SATA HD
Kingston 768MB RAM

stock heatsink and fan
Abit KV8-MAX3 mobo
AMD Athlon64 3200 CPU
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Western Digital 120G 7200rpm SATA HD
Kingston 768MB RAM

i already listed the motherboard
Abit KV8-MAX3 mobo
AMD Athlon64 3200 CPU
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Western Digital 120G 7200rpm SATA HD
Kingston 768MB RAM

I see not the motherboard.
If there's a big heatsink/fan ont here and it's running fairly cool now, you probably can if your BIOS will let you. Otherwise I'd update the cooling just in case...
AMD Sempron 2800+....Last of the Socket A's

Abit KV8-MAX3 is my motherboard

AMD Athlon64 3200 CPU
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Western Digital 120G 7200rpm SATA HD
Kingston 768MB RAM

well, i dont know what model 3200+ chip you have, I have a Venice core and i can hit 2.65 Ghz stable.
if you have a whinchester core then this is not possible, however 2.4 ghz should be.I have NO experience with your specific motherboard but i do know that to reach a STABLE 2.6 ghz clock youll need a cpu voltage of 1.6 volts, on my motherboard i can raise a CPU vid to max of 1.550 and a Cpu Voltage 10%- its takes 10% of 1.550 and gets around 1.6 volts, based on the program CPU-Z.
For a 2.4 Ghz overclock i would say only 1.55 volts is needed, Note you can have less voltage and everything may seem fine at first, BUT, if your voltage isnt high enough Battlefield 2 will find out, oh yes. Battle field two does the Best computer hardware check out of any program i have ever run.
Another Issues is ram Speeds, your ram should be fast enough but it may not like overclocking, if you first attempt at 2.4 GHZ fails horribly, that may be why.
Again i dont know anything about your board, but what need to be done is putting a Set or a limit or a max clock (somthing of the sorts) for your memory, try setting it to 166 mhz. and 133 if there problems, raiseing your memory timing will also slow peformance BUT make for more stable overclocking.
