Comment: Ok, First off I had a Albatron Kx600 Pro. I barely got that guy into windows most of the time, but it was a bum motherboard. But when it did detect the cpu correctly. So I replaced that motherboard with a Asus a7v600-x mobo, http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-131-470&depa=1 Basically the same board, but I've had better luck with Asus when building computers. And I got the 3200+ AMD athlon xp Barton, http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-391&depa=1 Which ran ok in the albatron, but the IDE port was dorked on that mobo. With the Asus I can only get this guy to boot with settings of 1.1ghz, 100/33. What the crap is going on. Every other setting won't boot up, then when i get back into bios it'll say my cpu clock speed was set to high. I really don't understand the multiplyer settings and all that to well, and Seriously need some help. I kinda read around a little, and don't know if the memory will effect the cpu speed. I have 2700+ DDR samsung memory.

Reply: (edit)Reset the CMOS via the jumper on the board, the 2500+ CPU has a clock speed of 1833Mhz (166X11) @ 1.65v. Your PC2700 (DDR333) RAM should run just fine with that CPU. After you clear the CMOS when you get back in the BIOS check the clock, multiplier and voltage settings to make sure they reflect the approprate numbers. ____________________________ The greatest risk is not taking one

Reply: (edit)Woops, I forgot to put that in. Yes, I cleared Cmos, and it does squat!!!! Still the only way to actually boot up is on 1.1ghz 100/33. Well the very first time I booted it up, it was set on 1833 mhz, I was like wtf mate?!?! So I put it on 2.2 Just like my cpu and this board support. Then it started, after saving changes and rebooting, it'll hang on boot, no screen. I have to reboot and it'll go into bios again. then I cleared cmos, then it was set on 1.1 this time. I let it stay, saved and exited. It booted up. Needless to say, I was pissed. I tried 1.4, then the 1.8, and of course the 2.2. they all hang. Only the 1.1 will work. And if I set it to manual, I can play with the multipliers, and stuff, but I don't know enough about those settings to be safe.

Reply: (edit)What you are experiencing is what happens when you set CPU speeds arbitrarilly, to run the 2500+ @ its clock speed (1833Mhz) go into the BIOS and manually set the frequency on 166 and the multiplier on 11. If you have access to the Vcore settings make sure it is on 1.65v. To overclock the 2500+ to a 3200+ clock speed you need to have PC3200 RAM as opposed to your current PC2700. The board specs says it supports 400FSB for the CPU and DDR400 for the RAM, so you should be able to overclock to 2.2GB once you get faster RAM. ____________________________ The greatest risk is not taking one

Reply: (edit)This isn't the 2500+ cpu, I have the 3200+ Athlon Xp Barton. And can't get it to run anywhere near it's real speed.

Reply: (edit)Duh! I think I need to get my ass in bed since I can barely concentrate on the thread. Went over it again and indeed noticed you have the 3200+ my bad. Well just as you know the 3200+ runs at 2200MHz clockspeed (200x11.0) @ 1.65v, but with your PC2700 you will not be able to unless you change your CPU/RAM ratio to 6:5 in the bios since you can't run both synchronously. ____________________________ The greatest risk is not taking one

Reply: (edit)Ok, So that's 11x mult. at 200/33? and I just need to find that Cpu/Ram Ratio thing and change it to 6:5. It's the standard Pheonix bios, but I have no idea where to find that.

Reply: (edit)You're gonna have to read over your manual. Look at the section related to BIOS settings, ADVANCED Menu. CPU Frequency Multiple = 11.0x CPU External frequency = 200/33 Memory Frequency = 333 CPU Vcore = Auto (or 1.65v) AGP voltage = Auto DRAM voltage = Auto System Performance = Optimal

Reply: (edit)is there any board jumpers that may be set to 100 mhz? just a thought

Reply: (edit)No jumpers on the board, but one that changes the Vcore voltage. it's on the standard one that allows up to 1.78. with it enabled kicks the voltage up to 1.79 to like 2.2 or something. And Jam about the changing settings thing. I didn't know what was safe to put on, I have messed with these kind of setting much at all. The book didn't help much either except telling what it does in like a 5 word sentence, no charts or anything in the book either for certain cpu's/memory. But I'll give it a shot.

Reply: (edit)when you reset cmos the memory speed goes to auto which means it will read the spd chip on the stick on set it to what it reads, which is 166mhz. This will not prevent the cpu from running at 200mhz. fyi. I think the kt600 is the worst board on the market and do not want to touch this one.
