I've had my box for a few years now and have been living with a small problem. I know I have a 2800+ but it's been registering as a 2600+. I've left it alone because I didn't need the extra speed and it's been plenty stable. Well, now I want the speed I should be getting but am a little unsure of what to do. I suspect ut's the fsb setting but I don't know what to change them too. Any advice?

There are several different versions of both the 2600+ & 2800+ & they all run at different clock speeds. Most likely, you're running your CPU at the wrong FSB setting. To help you figure out what's going on, we'd need to know what speed/clock setings your CPU is currently running at...if you don't know the settings, download & run CPUZ, then report back your findings.

Here's a direct download link:

I ran cpuz and it says: core speed - 1916MHz, bus speed - 166MHz, rated fsb - 333. If I missed what you needed, let me know and I'll post it. thanks for the quick reply.

Those are the correct clock settings for a Athlon XP 2600+ with a Barton core:

Most AXP's are multiplier-locked, meaning that the multiplier setting cannot be changed. Your CPU's multi is apparently 11.5x. The only other AXP with an 11.5x multi is the 1800+.

Whatever made you think you had a 2800+?

When I first put my box together, I verified all the part numbers before assembly. The processor I ordered and received WAS a 2800. I just pulled it apart and checked the numbers again and it is indeed a 2600. So I guess either my verification was faulty or my ex-roomate swapped it when I had him work on it after a HD crash. I'm guessing the latter but as I lost contact with him I guess I'm SOL. I suppose I'll head over to the OC forums now. Thanks for your help.
