Comment: Hi all, I just bought a ASUS A7V333 mother board, AMD Athlon XP 2100 processor, 2 256 DDR ram, and a ATX-9011 case...I installed it all and the pc keeps turning off after 5 minutes or sometimes a little longer. The temperature it runs at is around 60c. i cant figure out why it keeps doing this. Does anyone have any ideas why it is doing this

Reply: (edit)With overheating problems that I explain in “AMD 1800+ & heating”, my comp restarts in some cases, like playing some games, when CPU is well used. Same problem same motherboard, I don’t know why. Power is 300W.

Reply: (edit)300 watts may not be enough. Athlons above 1GHz and Athlon XPs are very power hungry when running at FSB 133.

Reply: (edit)First make sure it isn't related to your OS if you're running XP. XP is set by default to reboot instead of bluescreen if it detects an unrecoverable error. If you're running XP, right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, Settings, uncheck Automatically Restart. If that solves the reboot problem you have a software issue.

Reply: (edit)Actually, faster AMD processors above 850 Mhz. are all supposed to have at least 350 watt rated power supplies. However, some PS don't have real good venting - or the cases don't have real good venting, and then a 400 watt power supply would even be recommended. AMD recommends a minimum of 350 watts. Also, check you mobo bios, to see if there is a "PC Health" option with enable shut offs during times of specific temperatures. Just going in there and upping the temperature shut off by 5 or 10 degrees C, can make all of the difference. Hey Intel, AMD rulez!

Reply: (edit)Could be acpi problems. I just built a cheap duron system to test XP and was getting the reboots after 30-60 minutes. If you're running XP or 2K go to Start-Administrative Tools-Event Viewer- System. Look around for red error entries. If it is acpi that's causing problems you'll have to find an updated mobo bios flash or you can disable acpi. Right click on My Computer, Properties,Hardware, Device Manager. Expand the Computer box. If it says ACPI and you want to disable it then right click, update driver, pick the driver yourself, then select Standard PC. Note that you'll lose the instant off and other power management features and I don't think you can go back to ACPI without reinstalling Windows. Jimbo

Reply: (edit) I bought the same mobo and had the same problem. I was using my old hard drive in it. Bios acted like it detected my hard drive but Windows couldn't find it and would shut down the computer. Updating the bios to 1008 fixed my problem. I use a 250W power supply and have no problems anymore.
