I have my 2600 overclocked right now at 2.2 ghz (stock 1.8ghz). And it works fine until i get into a game. The stock frequency it idled at 42C and 47C on full load and works fine in and out of games. When i overclocked it went to about 45C idle and 57C on full load. The only problem is when i play a game it freezes after about 5 mins into the game. I have a Volcanoe 11 H/F and its running at 5100 RPM i dont see how it could be getting to hot. Or at least thats the only thing i think could be happening. Any ideas?

Could be many things.
-Did you lock the AGP/PCI/PCIe bus when you overclocked the CPU? If not, a sound/video card might be running unstable.
-Your RAM might be running a little two high for comfort. If your mobo has a RAM divider, set it so that your RAM's running as close to the 200MHz (400DDR) point as possible.
-Perhaps the CPU needs more voltage to run at the higher speed. If your mobo allows it, bump up the CPU voltage just a tad. Don't go too high though. If your CPU runs at 1.4v stock, 1.5v would be the highest I'd recommend you take it.
-Power supply might be weak or not big enough. What are its specs?Pentium III--Descendant of Intel Core.
Pentium III-S 1400 @ 1.63GHz, 512K L2
X800XT AIW OC 580/600

QDI Advance 12 mobo
Smugly running Vista

My agp and pci bus are not locked, my stock voltage is 1.6 but when i overclock it to 2.2 it wont even boot up unless i take it to 1.825 i know thats alot but thats the only way i could figure out to get it to work. I have an ultra 550 power supply. My memory is running at 200Mhz. Thanks so far. Any other ideas?

The KT400A chipset that's used on your board doesn't officially support 200MHz (400FSB) & being that it's a VIA chipset, there's typically no BIOS setting for locking the PCI/AGP. That means the PCI divider is probably locked at 5. So at 200MHz, the PCI bus would be running at 40MHz (AGP at 80MHz) & that's considered to be too far out of spec (defaults are 33/66MHz). Try the CPU freq at 190MHz. Make sure Spread Spectrum is disabled & if possible, adjust your RAM to run at 190MHz as well.

Oh ok well i didnt know it didnt support 400Mhz..but yeah i tried the 190mhz. My memory speed only had 3 options 266, 333, and 400Mhz so i just put it on auto. And its working and its idle temp is 40C i had to up the voltage from 1.6 up to 1.67 because at 1.6 it kept getting to the logon screen and restarting automatically...but neways thanks

Another possibility that I overlooked is the fact that you're running Vista. There are SO many problems with that OS, especially in regards to gaming, that I wouldn't know what to tell you. Right now, XP is still the OS for gamers.
