Comment: I am goin to get and AMD Mobile 2500+ CPU. It is obvoiusly goin to be a Barton Core, and my plan will be to get it from 166x11.0 to 200x11.0. Can you answer these questions 1. DOes this overclock work with the VIA KT600 or to be more specific AOpen AK77-600GN? 2. What RAM speed (PCxxxx) and brand is recommended? 3. What if my processor is locked, can I still increase the voltage? 4. What PSU do I need for the CPU? (in conjunction with Radeon9800 PRO)? 5. Which mobo do you think is the best? I want guys who have these cpus already overclocked to answer me...and plz mention your current (FSB X Multiplier setting), the orginal PR of your processor, the mobo, the ram speed and type, and finally the PSU bring used. Also chk this site and tell me if this mobo is good http://swe.aopen.com.tw/testreport/mb/cpu_supported.asp?TestFunction=494&Model=770 Thanks alot guys.

Reply: (edit)1. According to the website you mentioned, mobile barton 2500+ will work on your mobo. 2. PC3200~PC3700. 3. Mobile 2500+ is unlocked and you can raise the voltage. 4. At least 350W, better >400W with adaquate amps on 12V rail, say 20A, depending on other components you have. 5. NF7-S 2.0 with Vdimm modding. My rig: 350W PSU, NF7-S 2.0, Mobile Barton XP2600+ oced to 12x218 with 1.8V Vcore, Corsair PC3200LLPT 2x512MB dual channel, 1:1 with 2-3-2-6, Vdimm @2.8V, 2xHitachi 80GB SATA in RAID 0, 9800Pro flashed to 9800XT, Thermalright SLK-947U with Smart FanII and home-made intake air duct.

Reply: (edit)"1. Does this overclock work with the VIA KT600 or to be more specific AOpen AK77-600GN?" The kt600 does hold a candle to the nforce2 in raw performance or price performance. I encourage you to avoid it. 2. What RAM speed (PCxxxx) and brand is recommended? Anything pc3200 or over. 3. What if my processor is locked, can I still increase the voltage? yes, but all mobos are not created equal in vcore options or vcore stability. The power supply gives power to the mobo and the mobo creates the vcore. 4. What PSU do I need for the CPU? (in conjunction with Radeon9800 PRO)? Not less than 400W 5. Which mobo do you think is the best? DFI Nf2 Ultra Infinity "I want guys who have these cpus already overclocked to answer me" There are 1105 people who might respond to your post and you have limited it to 5. 1) 5 guys who have your cpu 2) 1000 guys who do not have your cpu but like to hear themselves talk 3) 100 guys who do not have your cpu but like to help others out. do not lock out group number 3 because of group number 2.

With your 9800Pro, you'd better get over 500 Watts PSU with reserve for additional HDDs.

Reply: (edit)TXH, do you by any chance have a Sapphire Radeon?? I found out something that KT600 has a single channel controller for ram and the new KT880 for AMD Athlon XPs has double channel....... about nvidia i have no track of their chipsets, how many nforce2 for bartons are there?? is the "nForce2 Ultra 400" good? (chek below link for nvidia board) Lanparty boards are not common here i think, mostly available are Asus, MSI, Aopen, ELite bla bla... chek this site and tell me which one is good....remember my radeon has a big Zalman cooler http://english.aopen.com.tw/products/mb/DDRSKA.htm one more thing....whats so bad about VIA KT600, isnt it cheap(price) and performs at the same level as nvidia??

Reply: (edit)i cheked the benchmarks and i am convinced that the Via KT600 sucks pretty much!! (maybe i like(d) it because of the 600), benchmarks show that it is slower than nforce in games..... i will go for an nforce2 mobo, but which one shall it be?????? there are many noforce, i mean, nforce2 chipsets right, like the Ultra 400, are there more? i am looking for a decently priced nvidia mobo around $70-80, because the Aopen via600 is for $76 a mobo which is easy to overclock in both volts and FSB

Reply: (edit)"how many nforce2 for bartons are there??" all of them "is the nForce2 Ultra 400 good" The 400 means its guaranteed to hit 400mhz fsb. nf2 non-400 boards hit 400mhz fsb 99% of the time but were just not guaranteed to do so. The ultra means it runs memory in dual channel. Not a big deal unless your memory is slow. The key for nf2 boards is mcp vs mcp-t. mcp-t boards have an audio processor built into the southbridge which offloads the cpu which lets it focus on other things. It matters mostly in gameplay. It also produces sound as good as any sound card. That said, the mcp is very good too. "whats so bad about VIA KT600" It sounds like you have found out. Not to mention it does not have good overclocking "nforce2 mobo, but which one shall it be?" the shuttle AN35N-Ultra for $59 at newegg is the best deal for new nf2. Its mcp. You won't find mcp-t for that price. But this $67 nf7 is close. http://www.buyxtremegear.com/nf7.html (mcp2=mcp-t) Here is a steal. $35 for the msi k7n2-delta l at newegg refurb. The reason it is cheap is it can be finicky about power supplies. I'd get it if yours is 400w or better. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-130-419R&depa=0 The biostar is also $35 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-138-227R&depa=0 Or the best of the refurbs is the abit nf7 for $45 http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductdesc.asp?description=13-127-144R&depa=99&type=Refurbish

another thing is albatron $60 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-170-113&depa=0 and asus $76 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-131-468&depa=1 they have mcp written so John plz tell me if this means mcp2 or not...

Reply: (edit)"what does barebone mean some nf7 are for 45? why" when you buy from newegg's refurbed stock you often get a barebone device, meaning no cables or manuals or (sometimes) install CD. You are getting a device that was returned for any reason, retested by the manfacturer and if it re-passes their quality assurance they re-issue it to newegg as a refurb. This is why they are so cheap. The newegg generous return policy makes it a good bet.

Reply: (edit) Athlon XP Mobile 2500+ Abit AN7 nForce2 Ultra 400 uGuru mobo Thermalright SLK-947U Heatsink Vantec Tornado on the Proc 128 MB Kingston PC2700 DDR (I know its crappy, its just until my 512 Geil arrives) nVidia GeForce 4 MX 440 (also an interim piece)
I currently have the proc running at 133*11 so its not great but I don't want to overpower the valueRAM (I am borrowing it) In my opinion the Abit is just about the best choice and most bang for the buck. It was about $100 and includes onboard LAN, Onboard 5.1 Audio with SPIDF in/out and includes SATA and RAID... here check the link [url\]http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=13-127-167&DEPA=1[url]
