I am a bit confused. I have a PC100
If I could get some help please,
I have a SystemBoard Super Socket 7 motherboard(Well that's what is says on my users manual. but on the processer's socket itself it says just socket 7). My processer is going bad. It is a AMD K6-2 500 Mhz.I am considering a AMD K6-2+ 450 Mhz. One thing I have noticed is that my K6-2 runs at 2.2V and the K6-2+ runs at 2.0V, is that compatable with my motherboard.I also did a little researching and I noticed that it says a K6-2+ is for a Super Socket 7 board, my motherboard has a 100 Mhz FSB and a built in AGP graphics adapter which I understand is two super socket seven charectoristics. That's where I am confused at.
Thanks A Lot,
George

You haven’t told us what MOBO you have. Most will allow you to change the voltage but some won’t.

Price watch shows K6-II 500s for $33 shipped FedEx 3 day. I think you are better off getting this CPU than the one you’re considering.

To run the K6-2 500 your board must be a Super Seven, so you're good on that part.
Why do you think your current CPU is "going bad"?
The K6-2+ and K6-III+ are newer chip designs with finer wiring, 0.18 micron, so use lower voltage and work faster. They also have the L2 cache included and running at full CPU speed, which makes them a much quicker proc.
Check your manual for how to set the voltage. You may need to find a BIOS update as well to use the + series chip.
More info on K6-2+ at www.amd.com.

It is a PC Chips Motherboard. Over the past 4 months I would say I had to go into my bios and turn my processers clock speed down or it would not start up at all, or if I ran at 500 Mhz like it was originally I would get blue screens and illegal operations. I am now running at 166 Mhz intil I recieve my new processer. Is there any place on the net that has decent heatsinks (like a thermal take) that will fit a super socket 7 motherboard???

Thanks,
George

the K6-2+ will hit 550MHz no problem and maybe even 600MHz or more if your lucky and keep it nice and cool. i wouldnt go above 2.1 or 2.2v to make it overclock because it is so fine.

I have recieved my new processer today. I had it installed but it found it as AMDSDRAM and not a k6-2+.Tries to startup but says checking nvram and won't budge.I have reinstalled my old one and here I am. I have looked into updating my bios and I am pretty sure I have the most recent, they don't recommend it though. At the factory some of the m599lmr motherboards was installed as flash protected and if you was to flash it you would have to buy a new bios chip. Well either I go and buy a direct replacement like I should have or I get this one working like I would like to.
