Currently having problems with PC locking up, think there could be problems with the fan/heatsink/CPU. Replaced Heavy Duty fan @4 times, seems OK at first but shortly after same problems. Jetway J-542B Motherboard, AMD K6 2 450 3D Now CPU, 128MB Ram, Windows 98. Any help or info would be gratefully appreciatd.

Probably should be posting this in hardware forum...
Are you just putting this together? or had this been running OK before this began? What revision board do you have? If your J-542B board is not Rev 3.0, then it can't support a 2.3V or 2.4V CPU.

Did you install the AMD patch for Windows 98?
It is important for trouble free operation with k6II.

There is no patch for AMD in Win98, there is only a patch for Win95 to initialize K6-2 processors which run above 350 MHz.

I can recall IT techs with problems installing Win98 using a k6II (Windows Protection Mode kicked in).
Well, then have you installed the VIA 4in1 drivers? If you have a VIA chipset you need these. Check your motherboard, and see who made it. Go to their website and get your motherboard drivers.
Or alternatively, (if you have the VIA chipset on your motherboard) go to www.viatech.com and get latest 4in1 drivers there.
