I bought a AMD k-6 that claimed to be 500 MHZ. When I turned on my computer it says it is 262 (Overclocked). I have a Solteck Socket 7 motherboard :-). Can anyone help?
Oh my BIOD is Award.

Well, what did it say on the top of the CPU...did it say K6-2/500mhz or not?

Soltek made an awful lot of socket 7 boards...you're gonna have to come up with a model number if you want help. Did you set the jumpers or DIP switch to configure the board for your new CPU or did you just slap it in & go? All the settings should be printed right on the board itself. Your CPU voltage should be set to 2.2v...your multiplier to 5.0x...your FSB to 100mhz. That's the best I can do to help without knowing the model number.

Its one of thier first one's. There are some DIP switches.. For the CPUCLK. I think between 66-133 MHZ. There are also some voltage things on there. I think... Oh crap.. I'll take it apart and look around. Thanks tho!

Here is the manual:
http://www.soltek.com.tw/soltek/download_file/Manual/socket7/54u5.pdf

For a 500MHz CPU:

CPU Clock Setting = 100 MHz
CPU Bus Ratio Setting = 5.0x

SW1: 1-3 OFF-OFF-OFF
SW1: 4-6 OFF-ON-ON

Well When I changed my SWI1: 4-6 It did boost up to about 413 MHz. But when the switches 1-3 get changed to 100 MHz, the computer turns on, but the screen doesnt. :-/

Double check your settings & your voltage...your CPU should be at 2.2v. If your CPU speed is 413mhz, your FSB is probably at 83mhz instead of 100mhz. What type RAM are you using? You'll need PC100 to get the 100mhz FSB...if you have 72-pin SIMMs, you'll never make it.
