I know this is probably stupid. I have a 533 AMD K6 3D Processor What is the fastest I can overclock this? It's an Compaq Presario 7478? I heard 550 was the most?

It depends on your motherboard. Since the K6-2 reads the 2.0x multiplier setting as 6.0x, you may be able to hit 600mhz if you have 100mhz FSB.

How do i find the information that is needed to decide what I have and need to do? Such as find the make of the mother board etc? I just need a little more speed but dont want to fry the cpu?
Thanks for any help.

What info are you refering Too? How to overclock. If you just want a little jump, you can move your FSB up a little depending on Your ram, and adjust the voltage. Does the K-6 come unlocked?? Or do you have to do it yourself..

FYI
Just because someone with the same computer can overclock at lets say 750, doesnt mean you will be able too. It varies upon systems.

I guess I explained wrong im sorry. I am wanting to overclock my computer. It is a Compaq 7478 with an AuthenticAMD AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor when I bought 2 sticks of 128MB memory for the computer they stated I needed 100MHZ sticks but used peony 100/133 compatible. So I beleive my bus is 100MHZ. I talked to compaq about upgrading the processor and they said that I coulndt do it with the motherboard I had. They said I COULD clock it to 550MHZ. Which isnt much about 17MHZ What can I do to increase the speed of the computer without frying the cpu? It has onboard graphics and sound. I was asking how can I find the information on the motherboard so I can find the maxium I can clock to? and what information is needed so I can post for a reply?
Thanks Mark

okay, Do you have a graphics card, you can overclock that real easy without mods. See if you have a setting on your motherboard to change the FSB to 133 from 100, that will it self jump up the speed only if your ram is 128 pc2100 or higher... by the way what is the motherboard, maybe i can find some info on it...

It's a Socket 7 board...it doesn't use DDR ram! And K6-2s are not locked. Max FSB 100mhz x 6.0 = 600mhz...that's the best you can do! Even so, I doubt you'll notice the difference, but if it's makes you feel better, crank it up.
You'd do better to invest in a decent video card.
What is it that you wanna do with this thing anyway? Games? Video?

The go and get a sledge and smash that little Compaq into small pieces. Now you have a nice little puzzle, then go and pick up a 8088 from a dumpster. Now you can play two games. LOL

I dont like someone posting for me. Whoever said that about pong. I didnt write it. I was just curious as to what I could clock it up to. I do alot of video editing and dvd playback is choppy sometimes. Like you said I dont think that I would notice. Thanks for the replies and whoever wrote and said pong just shows your intelligence......

get a pci video card, enable onboard video install max memory. i have 2 compaqs i am upgrading.
