Durons are ok for everyday stuff...word processing, internet, etc. But they're not great for gaming. The biggest problem is the lack of L2 cache - it only has 64k L2. The Athlon (Tbird) & early Athlon XP (Palomino, Tbred, Thorton) has 256k, & the later Athlon XP (Barton) has 512k.

The CPU is only part of the equation though...you'll need a decent video card & enough RAM

and also what games will u be playing, top titles like doom 3,halo 2,half life 2, then if so a 1.0ghz proccessor is gonna struggle... id get a new mobo from newegg and a decent proccessor and start from there.

My sisters computer has a AMD duron 900 Mhz processor...Lets just say, I think my old 533 Mhz celeron, with 128 KB L2, outperforms it in gaming.

My Duron 945MHz ran well for everyday stuff, but with its 32 MB graphics card, it struggled with gaming. My friend's P3-850 with a GeForce4 card does much better, and with 256 instead of 512 MB of RAM. I wouldn't run any new games with it, although SimCity 4 Deluxe, which is more memory-intensive, ran fairly well.

(Sorry. Wish there was an edit button.)

It also depends on the core. The newer Morgan will do slightly better (mine was a Spitfire). Yours is more than likely a Spitfire as well.

Morgan and Spitfire core were both available in 900 and 950Mhz Duron flavors. Otherwise any Duron under 900Mhz is a Spitfire core and any Duron over 950Mhz is a Morgan core up thru the 1300.
