Hi,
Ive just upgraded my cpu from a Amd 64 3500+ to a dual core 4200+. but now the system either hangs or restarts, its not over heating. I tried formating and restalling xp but still no luck. Any help would be welcome.

Make sure your BIOS settings for the CPU are all ok, if they are, try putting back your 3500+ and see if the problem goes away, if it does, i guess you'll just have to RMA it...

AMD64 X2 4400+ @ 2,52GHz
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
2GB OCZ GOLD DDR500
Asus EN7900GTX 512MB @ 720/1750

You need to dismantle the CPU/HSF and reassemble it, I have a hunch it is not seated right.

Also are you using a thermal pad or glue and if glue - did you apply too much and tha standoffs are they all appropriately placed, sometimes a short somewhere can cause your problem.

It can be a part other than your CPU. Maybe your CPU isn't compatible with your other parts, memory maybe? I upgrade my RAM one time and it started to reboot my computer automatically at times. Once I switched back to my old one it didn't reboot anymore. But yeah first I'd check the seating of your CPU... make sure that there isn't too much thermal compound.

If you have three ram modules it will restart automatically, so you must take the third one out. I am guessing you do since you have 1.5 GB of RAM.
