Ive just upgraded my cpu from a Amd 64 3500+ to a dual core 4200+. but now the system either hangs or restarts, its not over heating. I tried formating and restalling xp but still no luck. Any help would be welcome.

Reply: (edit)Make sure your BIOS settings for the CPU are all ok, if they are, try putting back your 3500+ and see if the problem goes away, if it does, i guess you'll just have to RMA it... AMD64 X2 4400+ @ 2,52GHz

I will try putting the 3500+ back in What do you mean when say RMA?

Reply: (edit)You need to dismantle the CPU/HSF and reassemble it, I have a hunch it is not seated right. Also are you using a thermal pad or glue and if glue - did you apply too much and tha standoffs are they all appropriately placed, sometimes a short somewhere can cause your problem.

Reply: (edit)It can be a part other than your CPU. Maybe your CPU isn't compatible with your other parts, memory maybe? I upgrade my RAM one time and it started to reboot my computer automatically at times. Once I switched back to my old one it didn't reboot anymore. But yeah first I'd check the seating of your CPU... make sure that there isn't too much thermal compound.

Reply: (edit)If you have three ram modules it will restart automatically, so you must take the third one out. I am guessing you do since you have 1.5 GB of RAM.
