Hi i've got a KT4V motherboard i brought a barton 2800+ and i know my motherboard supports it because i rang around and asked some people. but the thing is, is that its not running at 2800+ i mean i've looked in the bios and its says somthing about 100mzh but when i try and change it, it just kills ma system so then i have to clear the bios u know switching the jumper settings on the board, if i want to get more i have to load the high performance settings in the bios and that says its a 1300 which is **** and its really annoying me. i've not really looked into the manul yet but i will to night and i will keep reading it over and over again could some one plz help me u can get in contact with me @ kl46@hotmail.com

what are you trying to change the bus speed to?

You're right in as much as it shouldn't be set to 100mhz, as the bus speed for the Barton 2800 is 166 MHz. But if you're trying to put it much higher than that, then your PC won't be able to boot, which is why you have to reset the CMOS.

yep, the correct clock speed for your chip is 166. The multiplier is locked at 12.5

166 * 12.5 gives you 2.083 GHz, which is the correct clock speed of your chip (I have the same one).

You should read your manual or check the MSI website:

"FSB clock by default is 100, make sure that BIOS setup-->Frequency/Voltage Control-->CPU FSB clock set as 166"

if you set the fsb to 166 the clock speed will be correct.

AMD bus speeds are not auto-detected by many motherboards, I have the same problem with my 2800+ and MSI board.

One other thought, if your chip still shows as a 1300+ when your FSB is set to 166, then you may need to update your BIOS to the latest revision
