Comment:

I currently have the Amd Athlon Xp 2400+ 2.0 ghz Thouroughbread 266fsb/256 L2cache, an asus a7n8x-x mobo, and 768 mb pc2100 266mhz ddr ram. I would like to upgrade to a new Amd Athlon Xp cpu and not any of the Amd 64 models. Which amd athlon cpu would you buy? The 2500+, 2600+, 2700+, 2800+, 3000+, 3200+? I also know that if I get any of these new cpu's im goingto have to upgrade my memory for ex. pc3200 etc. All I want to know is what is the best processor that will give me the best performance at the best price etc. If there is any othe rinformation required to solve this question please post it in your reply and I will be more than happy to provide it.

Thank you.

if your on a budget and want the best bang for the buck get the 2500 with a good cooling system prefably one of the higher end ones by Thermaltake.
The 2500 is possibly the best overclocker for some reason unknown to me. it can easily be overclocked to 3200 speeds but u have to have the right ram (pc3200). getting a higher # barton is just wasting ur money to make ur comp sound better..

if you upgrade you will be turning in your current cpu for an identical cpu that just has higher factory default settings. Aside from the extra cache that is, which is worth about 100 points. You should study up on overclocking your current cpu.

I agree upgrading from your 2400+ will give u small amount of a performance boost. Unless your willing to go athlon64 then dont upgrade.

I agree with johnoh & a...read up on overclocking & keep your 2400+...buy some better RAM (PC2700 or PC3200) & modify your CPU clock settings...try 12.0 x 166mhz w/PC2700, or 10.0 x 200mhz w/PC3200 for starters, then overclock from there...
