Hello everyone! I could use some help. :(

My motherboard is a A7N8X-E DELUXE
the cpu is a AMD ATHLON XP 3200+ BARTON
the memory is 2x DUAL CHANNEL DDR 400 512GB Kingmax
And the O/S is XP PRO WITH SP1 installed.

The jumper on m/b is set to fsb400.
But if I set the CPU freq 200 MHz in the bios (this is the highest setting) the multipier 11.0x is not working! My computer just reboot when it's about to start the XP!

The only multipiler when it's work is 8.5x (=1700 MHz), or below! If I use 166 fsb, the highest multiplier which work is 10.0x (=1660 MHz)!

I don't understand why. :(

Can anyone help me? I would be very grateful.

Rebooting may be caused by a weak PSU. How many watts & how many amps on the +12v rail?

Also, unless you have an old 3200+, the multiplier is locked at 11.0x & can't be changed.

The FSB can be adjusted all the way up to 250MHz...200MHz is NOT the highest setting. My guess is you don't have your BIOS setup correctly. Run thru all your BIOS settings. Here's a few suggestions based on my board, which is similar to your's:

ADVANCED CHIPSET FEATURES

CPU External Freq. = 200MHz
CPU Frequency Multiple = AUTO
System Performance = User Defined
CPU Interface = Optimal
Memory Frequency = BY SPD or 100%
Memory Timing = Optimal
FSB Spread Spectrum = Disabled
AGP Spread Spectrum = Disabled
CPU Vcore Setting = AUTO (or MENU & set CPU Vcore to 1.65v)
Graphics Aperture Size = 128MB
AGP Frequency = 66MHz

1800+ @ 8 x 210MHz
768MB PC3200
Asus A9550 128MB/128-bit
WinME/WinXP Pro

I've set everything you said, but it's not working. :(

I CAN change the multiplier, so I think I have an old 3200+. And I double checked, and the fsb highest setting is 200, not 250.

I have Mercury 400W ps. The +12V Voltage is 12.99V (sometimes 13.05V). How can I see how many amps on the +12v rail?

My guess was the incorrect BIOS setup too, but I don't know how to set it up correctly, that's why I asked. Thanks for the answer.

You must set "System Performance" to "User Defined"...that will unlock the other FSB options above 200MHz

To find out how many amps on the +12v, remove the side panel from the case & look at the label on the side of the PSU.

Aaaaah. Yes, I can choose higher fsb than 200 if the System Performance is User defined. Sorry. :)

The +12V is 17A.

You may THINK you are changing the FSB but not actually changing anything. If you have a 3200 it should run at 200 x 11 by default. As jam said, you have something setup wrong in the BIOS.
