Comment:

Last December I bought a new mobo and processor to upgrade an existing system.
I paid a little extra to get a processor over 3gb. Apparently the CPU they installed was an amd athlon xp 3000+.
My question is, when I boot up I see 1300 and then (1700) on the processor description. Does this mean I have 3000 (1300 + 1700)?? Also, when I run belarc my cpu is listed as "1.3 gigahertz amd athlon xp" My friend worked with the tech over the phone and thinks he was given instructions to overclock the cpu up to 3000. I've just always wondered why I don't see 3gb during bios/boot up or on belarc. Please give me your thoughts.
Thanks

It means you never configured your system correctly. AMD uses different technology & their CPUs are much more efficient than Intel. The Athlon XP is "performance rated"...the model number is in comparison to a P4. Although the AXP 3000+ is comparable to a 3.0GHz P4, it actually runs at 2.167MHz.

Your 3000+ is supposed to run at 13 x 166MHz (2.167GHz) but apparently your FSB is set at 100MHz. That would cause your CPU to run at 1.3GHz (13 x 100MHz), or about 40% slower than it's designed to run. If anything, it would be recognized as 1500+, not 1700+.

Has your system been like this for an entire year & you're just noticing it now? What motherboard do you have? You either have to change a jumper of the motherboard, or change a setting within the BIOS.
