I recently Built my computer with an asus motherboard A7N8X Deluxe and an AMD Athlon XP 2600+, at first it only read 1.25 Ghz so i went to the BIOS and changed the external frequency to 200 Mhz and my system crashed so I then put it down to 166 which is where it currently is. I was wondering if 2.08 Ghz is the maximum speed for a 2600+ or can i somehow up it to 2500?

The FSB setting for that CPU is 166 which you have it set to so that is correct cpu speed if you want more speed out of the cpu then thats where you got to start overclocking which i will leave for a more experience person on here to anser

Yeah you wouldd have to over clock it. I think upping it all the way to 2500 would be a bit much maybe. Remember, 2600+ (or 2500+) doesnt mean that it runs at 2500/2600 MHz. It means that it compares to a p4 runnning at that speed. Bes ure if you overclock, you have really good cooling.

Well basically...your fsb for your cpu should be at 166 so thats the regular speed...now if you want to increase the speed you have to follow the overclocking footsteps..raise your fsb for the cpu little by little..from 166 - 167 - 168...ect...basically there will be a point where it will just system crash...so enter the bios and go back to the fsb where it was stable...after this completed you have to make sure your computer can handle this speed...for instance keep track on your cpu temperature make sure it doesnt go too high..I think for me above 60 is the overheating point...and also remember that you are risking frying your whole computer and that your warrenty is crap after this...take care... that is the original speed. I have a amd thlon xp 2600+ myself. I overclocked it to 2,25 ghz and it's stable. but 2.08 ghz is the original speed of a amd athlon xp 2600+ !
