well there is no files that can make the os act as a 64-bit os, just wait until micrsoft makes one window 64-bit

win XP PRO doesn't support 64 bit apps the athlon 64 is backwards compatible to 32 bit apps so win xp (home or pro) would work

I also am thinking of upgrading to a similar 64 setup. My main purpose for my PC is gaming. I want to make sure that Windows XP pro will work with my 64. You are saying that It will and all my programs and games will work too? also, I understand that some games coming out will have a 64 bit version as well. Will these work along side other 32 bit programs? Again, I just want to double check as I am investing alot of money into this processer. ty :)

I have not had a chance to build my own AMD 64 desktop. But I did buy an emachine t6000 (only the tower) which is an amd athlon 64 bit to tryout. it is running Windows XP Home edition 32-bit edition and it is runs great with all my games and applications.
