Hi, got a small problem.
From a friend of mine, I got a motherboard (MSI K7N420), and a CPU, but he was insecure about what kind of CPU this was. He had purchased the motherboard with this CPU a while ago.
So connecting this, configured the CPU/MEM/AGP's Freq as, tried several settings (and a message telling me what main processor I got):
100/200/66 - AMD Athlon 1150MHz
100/266/66 - AMD Athlon 1150MHz
105/210/70 - AMD Athlon 1208MHz
106/280/70 - AMD Athlon 1208MHz
111/222/74 - AMD Athlon 1500+
111/298/74 - AMD Athlon 1500+
114/228/75 - AMD Athlon 1500+
114/305/76 - AMD Athlon 1500+
133/200/66 - AMD Athlon 1800+
133/266/66 - AMD Athlon 1800+
137/206/68 - AMD Athlon 1900+
137/274/68 - AMD Athlon 1900+
.... and I didn't take the chance to test any
further.
And of cource, there is no label on the CPU.Does anyone hava any idea of what kind of CPU I got, or any suggestions on what settings I should try?
Could the CPU be a 1500+, but what settings?
Thanks, Rune

It either runs at 100/200/66 or 133/266/66...all the rest are overclock/underclock settings.
I agree with dave2718...you probably have a Athlon XP 1800+. All you had to do was read the model number off the top of the CPU. If it had a square core, it's a Palomino. If it had a rectangular core, it's a Tbred. Another way to tell is by the default voltage...the Palomino runs at 1.75v, the Tbred runs at either 1.5v or 1.6v for that model.
Or you could just use CPUZ:

Hi there jam and dave2718.
Thanks a lot for quick answers.
I'll give CPUZ a try as well later to day.But I wonder what the following settings should be:
Clock Spread Spectrum (disabled)?
CPU/MEM/AGP’s Freq: 133/266/66
CPU CLOCK RATIO (Default)?
CPU Voltage Adjust (Default)? Is there any idea to change the other three settings. Did not find anything in the motherboard manual.
Rune

Hi again.
Could one of youe please take a look at these two files:
http://home.loqal.no/~ruaage/cpuz/100_200_66.htm
http://home.loqal.no/~ruaage/cpuz/133_266_66.htmDoes this verify that the CPU is a 1800+ ?
Thanks
Rune

Yup, Athlon XP 1800+ Palomino...the 2nd setting is the one to go with. The CPU should run at 1.53GHz = 11.5 x 133MHz @ 1.75v
The settings you posted are correct:
Clock Spread Spectrum = DISABLED
CPU/MEM/AGP’s Freq = 133/266/66
CPU CLOCK RATIO = Default (or 11.5x)
CPU Voltage Adjust = Default (or 1.75v)If I get a chance, I'll download the manual & run thru the BIOS section. I'll post back later....

Here's a couple of links for your board. Apparently it will support up to an Athlon XP 2600+ with the proper BIOS:

Hi, thanks a lot for all the good help
from both of you.
The computer is now running with XP 1800+,
and it seem to be working just fine.
The only thing is that it seem to get pretty hot inside the cabinet, thinking of purchase an extra fan.Rune

If you have it in a cabinet the problem is that the heat you blow out at the backside is unable to get out and the heat will be sucked in again. A friend has the same problem and we solved it by building air grids into the backside of the cabinet and installed a case fan with up to 5000rpm into the backside. Even better would be a fan at the grid in the cabinet that sucks the hot air out!
