Does anybody know what would be the highest(in MHZ) AMD processor that will work with a socket 7 chipset?

Depends on the motherboard. What is the brand and model number?

the K6-2 only goes to 550 anyway and the k6-3's are now very hard to find although, if you can find a k6-3 450, it smokes a k6-2 550....if you can find one...

Try a K6-2+ or K6-III+ and overclock it to 550MHz at least.

A K6-2+ (meant for laptops, but works in
desktops) can go up to 600MHz with the
right board. I believe this is the fastest
socket 7 processor ever produced.

Actually it depends on if your board can do 100 fsb and how hi your multiplier can go. If you decide to overclock make sure you get a socket "a" heavy duty cooler. It will fit on a socket 7 and keep it very cool. I hear socket 7 amd do not like overclocks over 50-100mz from what their rated. If you are going to do this by adjusting you fsb instead of multiplier make sure you have pc 133 ram or it will become very unstable. You can get a new bios for your board at the boards manufacturer's web site. there free! and somtimes allow for faster speeds! Hope this helps Issac
