Im trying to oc my processor a little bit higher than 2.5 ghtz. But once I hit the 2.6 ghtz line. My computer just dies. I have all the correct cooling and I run 2.5 ghtz stable at 28C idle and 40 full load. I just dont know what the problem is and I want to go further. But im limited to :(

bios or warpspeeder?

2 gigs of ram.
would that be 4x512mb or 2x 1gb?
600watt psu.make?amperage on the +12v rail?
biostar.which model?I'm guessing 'N4SLI-A9'.

You were right with 'N4SLI-A9', and im using the bios, but it feels like im limited to options with my bios. No overclocking tab in the bios either, just "advanced chipset options" and voltage control. I am using 2x1gig sticks of RAM. and I dont know much about the amperage on the +12v rail. honestly I dont know what that means, sorry! But moving on, Im just confused that at 2.5 ghtz I can run idle at 28c and load 35-40c. Which is pretty cool for that speed. It confuses me. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Just another thing. It feels like I got ripped off on my motherboard. It says on the box, easy overclocking, yet I have slim to none help on that. I cant even use warpspeeder due to the face that my motherboard wont even work with it. Yet, it comes on the driver cd...:| Same with Ntune, and basically any kind of overclock/temperature monitor. I feel like i've been fooled. Maybe I'm doing something, or maybe I got a **** mobo :(

If someone could tell me why my temperature monitors arnt working. That'd be great. Thanks for all your help!

Which bios version/number are you running?

AMD64s run at about 1.35ish to 1.45ish or more depending on oc which is quite low and therefore don't generate as much heat,so things run cooler.

sounds like it's old.

maybe a bios flash is needed?
if your not knowledgeable enough to flash then take it to the shop and ask them.

what are the settings your using in the bios to oc?

HTT is set at 5x, Ram is set at 133, FBS is set at 235 I believe and my cpu multiplyer is set at 9. I folowed a tutorial and it told me to do this. It's running fine right now.

Any advice? Did I do anything wrong?

Lower the HTT multi to 4.
It's gotta be around the 1000 mark and 235x5=1175 which is just a tad too much to be safe.

Also 235x9=2115 which is 2.1ghz not 2.5ghz
But the default multi for a 4400+ is 11(I think?)
235x11=2585=2.5ghz
I think you should be able to make the ram 166 also.
Maybe even 200?

It's also worth knowing that using 2x1gb of ram won't get as big an oc as using 2x512mb of ram.

Try 237
That would make it 237x11=2607=2.6ghz

Your almost at 2.6 as it is and the performance difference is hardly going to be noticable.

Don't forget the HTT to x4

What's the big difference with HTT x5 and x4, and yeah you're prolly right about the difference.

The HTT needs to be at or around a 1000.
This derived from the 'FSB' x the HTT multiplier.

Default is 200x5 which=1000.
Your at 235x5 which=1175.
Which is just a tad too much to be on the safe side.

Dropping the multi to x4 brings it under 1000 and therefore less likely to crash.
