AMD 3000+ w/ an ASUS A7V333 board

I recently purchased an AMD cpu, 3000+ with barton core, and then realized that my motherboard might not be able to handle it. My motherboard is an ASUS A7V333 revision 1.01 with bios update 1017. As per ASUS website, to be able to run an AMD 3000+ (bus frequency 333) you need at least bios update 1016, and PCB revision 2.00, and it also says in the documentation i got with my board that The FSB is 266/200. The bios settings for clock frequency allows for higher than 266 (133 MHz times 2) thought. So with what I just mentionned above, I'm afraid to try and install this CPU and end up frying the CPU or the motherboard, or both... Can anyway tell me if it would work, or is there any danger of frying anything by trying (assuming I installed heatsink and fan properly of course, but I'm not worried about that, it isn't my first CPU I would install).

Installing the CPU will not fry the CPU or your motherboard, the worst that could happen is the system fails to post with the new CPU in place. Give it a try.
There's both a 333FSB (166MHz) version & 400FSB (200MHz) version of the 3000+. If your board doesn't support the proper FSB, the CPU will have to be run underclocked.

I guess if my bios is updated to handle 333 buses, it might work afterall. I will give it a try!
