My new 1800+ cpu is running at a steady 51 degrees, and the heatsink is warm to the touch. Does anyone know the safe operating temperature ceiling for these processors? Thanks

Funny enough AMD say that the max temp athlons run at is 90c
( i think theyve been smoking something )

Running at full whack you dont really want above 55c

the system can become very unstable..
If your worried about temp add some cooling to your case or a better HFS

See my post on Athlon cooling above.

"Good" temps for this CPU are the mid 40 C range.

hi. i to just installed a xp1800+. it was running about 50-52 degrees until i put a huge case fan right behind it. and it brought down the temp about 5 degrees.my problem is this. I am running a epox 8kha (not + version) board rev 1.1. Now on Epox's site it says you have to have rev1.3 to run xp processors. my question is ..am i going to tharsh the board/chip buy running the xp? so far i have not ran into to many probs. Just some video card issues etc and some lock ups. Besides if my board could not handle a xp then why whould it show the right clock speed/name at boot up and when i run cpu programs it comes up? just wondering cause if this does not work ill prob upgrade boards.

I just got one too, mine runs at 75Cs, and I'm getting ready to return it... but I haven't had any lockups of any sort, so I dunno what I should do.

I also got an amd 1800xp itīs running at 65-70c, and Iīve installed a silverado cpu cooler, one case fan ,and a videocard cooler. I havenīt had any problems (at least heat related), but I would like to bring down the temp. But i has to be low noise... Any suggestions????

AMD 1800+ with a EPOX 8K3A. I had it touching 80 Degrees Centigrade (Hmm... but also fried two 256 MB DDR at the same time).

New board EPOX board same processor: Temperature levels out at 48 degrees running a 1200 Mhz clock. At rated 1500 Mhz the temperature levels out at 55 Degrees (whilist monitoring in BIOS) but using XP it rises to 60 degrees.

AMD State a maximum operating temperature of 90 but I think they are having a laugh. The main issue with my setup is that the Processor Fan is obscured by the PSU perhaps preventing proper cooling: :(

man what is wrong with your guys cpu's???\
i got the amd 1800 and overclocked running at 1.72 thats 11.5 x 150 (i think) anyway my cpu never get hotter that 45c so i would be kinda worried if mine wasnt over clocked and it was running as hot as some of your out there. all i can say is that you need better air flow in your cases.

Hi Guys,

Well I just git me a 1600+ which the mobo overclocks to 1800 and it's running at 40c under WinXP. I've tried lots of software like Photoshop7 and it doesn't get much hotter.

I have an Epox 8Kha+ motherboard with an Athlon XP 1800+ and my heatsink is an Alpha PAL6035 (using artic Silver 3).
My processor is idle at 40.5c and at full load it hits around 45c.
I have a Lan-Li pc60 case with Vantec Stealth fans in front and back. My case temp is 27c.
I feel that running a processor hotter than 50-55c is unacceptable. I would suggest you guys get a better heatsink and make sure to use thermal paste according to instrtuctions.
On a side note I am soon going to be replacing my cpu fan with an 80mm vantec stealth fan using an Akasa 60mm to 80mm fan adapter. i will post temps if it works without me frying my cpu...
