Dears,
I have Asus A7A266-E and Athlon-1700+ XP cpu. New m/c.
The following from bios setup.
CPU Speed 1.466MHz
CPU Frequency multiple 5.0x
CPU/PCI Frequency Mhz 133/33
CPU Memory Frequency ratio 1:1.When see CPU information from Windows 2000 it shows 1.777 GHz. But 1700+ speed is 1.466 !.
I found some information in AMD site ,
(system clock x multiplier) = processor frequency).According above formula, my cpu speed 133*5.0 = 665 MHz only...It means my cpu is running only 665MHz ?. even it supporting 1.466 GHz.
What is wrong with my machine ?.
1. Why windows 2000 shows cpu speed 1.477 GHz.
2. According formula of muliplier and system clock, Is my cpu running only on 665 MHz ?.Apart from my m/c some time rebooted automatically and BIOS open automatically and shows the following message
-------------
During the last boot-up, your system hung for on improper CPU Internal Frequency setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. To optimize the system performance and reliability, make sure the CPU speed conforms to the specifications of your CPU
--------------Please anyone help to me.
Thanks
Senthil nathanPlease any one help me.

1.47GHz is the correct frequency for an Athlon XP 1700+.
That CPU has a multiplier of 11X.
Check the ASUS website for an updated BIOS.

Thanks.
My Bios is updated one.
Should i change mulitpiler from 5.0x to 11.0x ?.Is these things cause for rebootting ?
Thanks
Muthu

set multiplier to default
the chips are locked they will only run at factory set speed.your BIOS shows its running at 1.4
