Hi, there

I just got this old PC. I Have no idea what brand it is, but the sticker on it reads"Intel i486DX4 100Mhz, 33mhz turbo, 16 mb ram (upgradeable to 128)2 usb ports,Ati 32-bit graphics adapter with 2mb oeb video ram and a 3com ethernet card. There is also the desined for windows 95 sticker on it. First of all i think its very strange to see a 486 that can run at 133mhz and Usb ports Omg. When i booted it up it had windows 98 and took forever to load. finally i get to system and it says "unkown 80486" and it had
210mb ram.I ran cpu-z and it showed the cpu running at 133mhz.Is this some poor PC manufactur trieng to sell low-end pc's way back when. I reinstalled 98se and it runs fine know but i still think its Unreal. In fact im using it right know with no problems.

Installing Windows 98 on a 486 DX4 100MHz........is not uncommon and there's probably a few folks still running one as we speak - WIn95/98 forum.

USB ports and 210mb of RAM on a 486. That's indeed an unusual configuration. It's got my old P2-266 beat, RAM-wise.

What I'm wondering is how the hck it's running 210mb of RAM when the sticker says that it'll only take 128 max? :-)

Are the USB ports on a PCI card, or are they actually integrated on the motherboard?

The fastest Intel-made 486 chips ran at 100, so yours must either be an overclocked Intel chip or an AMD/Cyrix/Other 486.

I recently got my 486-DX2 66MHz system running 98SE as well; in fact you'll see my thread if you go to the Win9x forum.

I try to run win95 on 386 33Mhz CPU + 8MB RAM and a 120mb hard drive... Open the control panel takes 1 minute and boot up takes 10 minute with OS installed only.

"Are the USB ports on a PCI card, or are they actually integrated on the motherboard?"

There on some kind of pci card. The PCI SLOT it
goes into is no more than a half an inch. And it is as far back as where the end if the isa slot is.

"What I'm wondering is how the hck it's running 210mb of RAM when the sticker says that it'll only take 128 max? :-)"

I think that was an estimate of what I could hold at the time. It has 8 ram slots so I think it was designed to have 8 16mb strips.

"The fastest Intel-made 486 chips ran at 100, so yours must either be an overclocked Intel chip or an AMD/Cyrix/Other 486."

I cant say if its overclocked, but i know for sure that its Intel and whats up with the turbo.

I have a 486sx 33mhz and 4mb ram with a 428mb hard drive...I takes 10-20 sec's to open control panel and about 2-3 mins for boot. Also i have IE 5 16-bit, Aim,Aol 4.0 16-bit,YIM,OutPost firewall,and,MS-BOB
