Am I Overclocked?

OS: Win Me
CPU/Ram: 333 MHz/128 MB
Comment:

On booting, the processor is reported as 333 MHz. Win sys Info reports ~266, Norton ~263, various other programs report similar to ~266.

Is this PC Overclocked, what would I look for in BIOS to determine that?

Many thanks for your response.

Bill.

Not enough info.???? Motherboard type...Processor type.....also it sounds more like you're under-clocked

Sounds like you have a Cyrix M2-333. They run on a multiplier of 4 and a bus speed of 66 MHz giving a clock speed of 264 MHz. The reason for the program reporting a higher speed sometimes is that the bus speed is actually 66.6 MHz. 66.6 * 4 = 266.4 MHz. Sometimes the extra .6 MHz is taken into account by the program, sometimes it isn't.

.........although some people will run the FSB at 83 MHz if the board allows and change the multiplier to factor 3 to improve overall performance of the chip.

Ben and Louis

Many thanks, Ben, you are absolutely right, I have Cyrix M2-333 (and Louis) on a Jetway 530 BF Mobo. Ben's report, Wow! I'm doing the maths but still don't know if this PC is overclocked!

The reason I post this, is that I've been running Win 98 Se and Me for nearly three years (Me for the last 18 months) and question the stability of my PC v OS. I usually have a crash/freeze/hang/spontaneous reboot/etc/etc of some sort most everyday, which is less than when I ran 98Se (OK, reboot to normal mode does sort it).

So underclocked/overclocked or just right? (please bear in mind this is a pretty well tweaked PC). Ben and Louis - Thanks if you can add anything more.

Bill.

The CPU is running at it's correct speed. Your crashes could be down to the memory running at 83 MHz when it's only rated for 66 MHz. If that is true lowering the FSB to 66 MHz and raising the multiplier to 4X might solve the problem although the performance of the computer would be worse than before.

Ben (The Psychic) and Louis - Thanks, somehow I feel a little better about this outdated but beautiful machine.
