Man :( I just received 2 80mm case fans, the kind that plug into the 4 pin power supply. Well, I plugged them in, then when I turned on my PC, I got beeping sounds coming from it, and the bios didn't show up. I knew it had to be the fans, so I then unplugged one fan, and left the other in, I still got that sound. Then I unplugged both, switched the wires around, plugged them both in, then turned the PC on. It booted up, but halfway during Windows startup, the screen froze. I then turned the PC off, unplugged both fans, then still get the beeping sounds. Next I took out the 128MB stick of RAM and put the original back in, and now it works. So it turns out my one month old 128MB stick of RAM went bad.

There is a lifetime warranty on it, but I don't want to ship it back and the same thing happen again. Has anyone ever heard of this problem? Was it because my power supply couldn't handle all the power? If anything, I thought my Power supply burned out, but it is fine, it's only the RAM. Or do you think it is just a coincidence when I installed my fans maybe static hit the RAM? Anyone please? Thanks

I think your RAM got banged up. If it is still under warranty, get a new stick.

Yeah, I think static got to it. Kinda weird since I mess inside my PC almost everyday, and when I got the fans, it messed up :( I just foudn out it has a lifetime warranty though on the RAM :D So that is good news :) I will send it back and get another stick. And man, those fans are loud as hell!!!!!!! Gawd, it is like they purposely make them loud. I bought the best kind they had, ball bearing 80mm case fans for $8 dollars each, all the other fans were about $2 dollars. My PC sounds like a blow dryer now.

dont feel too bad man, I have a 120 cut into the top of my antec case, two 80's in the side door, 60's in front of my raid, two more 60's on the back and a wbk38 on the t'bird with a delta 60...you have no idea what loud is, mine sounds like the damn air conditioner outside my house....although I ahve had a 1.4 running at 1.7 for over a year and it has yet to hit over 108F under max load. All the fans are delta's and sunons so you should get an idea of what it sounds like.

Let me ask you this. Overclocking from a 1.4Ghz to a 1.7Ghz, with all those (numerous) fans running. And with the current increase in electricity price. Would it cost more to use your computer in term of having to pay for electricity bill, than if you can just sell your old system to someone else, and then get the faster CPU speed as you can, and use just little fans and run your CPU at the manufacturer's set speed?
Of course your answer would be the newer the CPU with higher clock speed, the more heat would be dissipating, hence the same amount of cooling by fans ( numerous) would be require; hence it would cost the same, in term of having to pay for electricity.
Suppose if you have like only three 80mm fans in addition to your CPU fan and a case fan; and that would be use for three years; then would it cost you more ( to pay for electricity) than if you can just buy a faster CPU run at specified speed with proper duct shaped to distribute air flow with only one 80mm fan instead of three fans?
