OS: XP Pro
CPU/Ram: 64 X2 6000+/2Gb Dual PC64
Product: MSI K9N SLI Platinum
Comment:

Just set up my sys, and out of the bat surpisingly almost everything worked and recognized what it was supposed to. Now on start up my post says that it recognizes my dual core correctly with the correct speed, correct amount of ram at 800 Mhz... but im trying to figure out how to correctly imput the ram configs... i have dual channel kingstons 4,4,4,12 @ 2.0V... ok... so when i go into my Cell menu to attempt to adjust what is "baseline" I get more options than I know what to do with.

Ok.. CPUz says my current settings are this:

Freq: 416.3
FSB:Dram cpu/8
CAS#Latency: 5.0 clocks
RAS# to CAS Delay 6 clocks
RAS # Precharge 5 clocks
Cycle Time (TRAS) 16 clocks
Bank cycle time (trc) 21 Clocks
Command rate 2T

ok... so here are my Cell Menu options
Mem Clock Value 400 (default) up to 800
Cas#Latency (TCL) : 3 -> 6
Min Ras# Active Time (TRAS) 5 ->18 clk
Ras#Percharge Time (TRP) 3-> 6 clk
Ras#to Cas# Delay (TRCD) 3-> 6 clk
ROW to ROW Delay (TRRD) 2T-> 5T
ROW Cycle Time (TRC) 11T -> 24T
Bank Interleaveing - Enabled
Enable Clock to all Dimms - Disabled
CMD-ADDR Timing Mode - (2T)
Software Mem Hole - Enabled

Ok, so to get the ram configured to manufactures recommendations... what do I change, what do I leave on Auto?

just a fyi... cpuz is also stating
that my CPU stats are the following:

AMD Athlon 64X2 dual core 6000+ Windsor
Voltage: 1.536 v
Core speed: 3360.7
Multiplier: x 15
bus speed: 224.0 Mhz
HT link: 1120.1 Mhz

dont know if that helps with my question or not but thought i would include it. *shrugs*

You realize that both the CPU & RAM are overclocked, right? By doing so, your "HT link" is too high & may cause instability. You should keep it as close to 1000MHz as possible...slightly lower is OK, but higher is generally not good.

BTW, if your RAM is 4-4-4-12, why is it running at 5-6-5-16? It definitely wouldn't default to those settings so you must have changed them.

Actually, yes I do realize I have overclocked the system. And yes, according to MSI, and Kingston, their ram does not automatically clock at the 4,4,4,12 ... why its clocking at 5,6,5,16 - i dont know, the bios settings are at AUTO - the only thing I adjusting to the memory was to increase the voltage from 1.9 v to 2.0 v as recommended. everything thing else in memory is set to AUTO.

now, I have adjusted the CPU - increased the voltage and the bus speed. And the Temp's are good and everything is stable so far.

Just looking up the stats again on that Kingston hyper X modules :

KHX6400D2LLK2/2GN 2GB 800MHz DDR2 Non-ECC
Low-Latency CL4 NVIDIA SLI-READY (Kit of 2) 4-4-4-12 2.0V . The SPD is programmed to JEDEDC standard latency 800Mhz timing of 5-5-5-15-2T @ 1.9V.

Still doesnt explain why when my Memory Bios is set on AUTO it reads it at 5-6-5-16 tho.

I cleared the CMOS, and ran CPUZ and it came up with everything on Auto, it came up with the 5-6-5-16, combo @ 1.90V.

I finally figured out what I needed to do to get the appropriate settings.

Cas#Latency (TCL) : 4
Min Ras# Active Time (TRAS) 13 clk
Ras#Percharge Time (TRP) 4 clk
Ras#to Cas# Delay (TRCD) 4 clk
ROW to ROW Delay (TRRD) 4T
ROW Cycle Time (TRC) 12T

The Key thing to figure out was the Min Ras# Active Time (TRAS) had to be set to 13.

Now cpuz is reading it correctly @ 2.0 V...

Yippie...

Your overclocking is a mess. Have you ever overclocked an A64/X2 system before?
