Most people who build computers for themselves they do it mainly for the ability to overclock and the price. Well I'm here to take one of those reasons away!

My Acers' BIOS does support overclocking in everyway shape and form. It even lets you change the fan speeds.

I have it running at 300MHz overclocked and it's running cool (35C)and stable!

So whoever says Name Brand = not overclockable your wrong =)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 1MB L2 per core
2GB Dual Channel ECC 333MHZ
320GB SATA 7,200RPM
10/100/1000 Gigabit Networking
7.1 surround sound
ATI XGE X1300 512MB VC 600MHZ

The fact that you were able to do this still does not alter the fact that VAR/OEM systems are generally NOT overclockable.

Mind telling us what specific motherboard Acer bundled with that system or you don't know?

Yes I do know, it is a Acer EM61SM/EM61PM with a nVidia ID03EA chipset.

The BIOS' Version is R01-B1

A 300MHz O/C is nothing to write home about. You *should* be able to raise the CPU freq to 250MHz without any problems whatsoever...but you'd have to be able to adjust all the other BIOS settings that are necessary to pull it off. That will result in a 550MHz overclock.

I'm curious about your configuration. I mentioned this in your other thread, but why are you running ECC RAM & why are you running it at 333MHz? And your X1300 is not a good gaming card, regardless of the fact that it's "factory overclocked". Have a look at this F.E.A.R. benchtest chart - the X1300 is dead last. With those kinda framerates, the game would be unplayable:

This PC came with NON-ECC RAM but is upgradable (only 2 slots are used) it is Dual Channel. I have upgraded this RAM to ECC from Stock NON-ECC dual channel. Its' Maximum speed is 800MHz but I broke the RAM fan so I underclocked it so it didn't overheat. I am awaiting a replacement fan ( I couldn't just go out and buy one it is a odd size and runs at very high speeds). My GPU is fine just not when you have is absolutely maxed out. I have just finished overclocking it another 150MHz and it's running cool and stable. (39C) Everything is fine on the GPU now. Any XGE GPU is worth the money. I didn't have alot at the time and it was the best Best Buy had. (lol)

"I have upgraded this RAM to ECC from Stock NON-ECC"

I don't what speed RAM you "upgraded" from, but ECC RAM performs slower than non-ECC RAM because of the extra chip that's used for error correction. It's generally used in servers, not desktop PCs. You can usually disable ECC in the BIOS to gain some performance, but that kinda defeats the purpose of having ECC RAM. Newegg has several brands of 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-800 (non-ECC) for less than $150:

"Its' Maximum speed is 800MHz but I broke the RAM fan so I underclocked it so it didn't overheat."

RAM fan?? Most people don't use a "RAM fan" & have no problem running their RAM at the speed it's rated at.

"Any XGE GPU is worth the money"

I definitely don't agree with that. And why are you buying at BestBuy when online shopping is SO much cheaper? You probably paid about $125-150 for that card? The Radeon X1300 is at the very bottom of ATI's X1xx lineup. It only has 4 pipelines & uses DDR2 memory. 512MB on a low end card such as that is a waste. It's a marketing trick, nothing more. You could have easily gotten a GeForce 7600GT or Radeon X1650Pro for the same price or less at newegg. As a matter of fact, the Radeon X1950GT is currently available for just $110 after rebate:

My RAM comes directly from ACER it has heat spreaders and a supposedly removable fan, which I broke. I tryed running the RAM with just the heat spreaders but they were scalding to the touch.I don't want to chance it. I'm fine with running my RAM at a slower speed right now because I'm just surfing the internet for the moment.
I payed $65 for my video card... so far its' been worth the money. I will play DOOM 3, Half Life 2 and all the other games I have just fine on all the highest settings.
Hence why I said it was worth the money.

AMDdude, could you explain to me how you found the settings in the Bios to overclock the CPU? I have the same Acer motherboard in my T180 and can't find the settings anywhere in the Bios. I can't get clockgen to work with this system either.

Thanks
Ryan
