Accident boot jumper on clear CMOS

Attempted to build my first system. Ordered case with 300 watt PS, DVD drive, floppy etc.. Initially ordered a biostar m7VKQ mother board and AMD XP1900 processor. Did a faulty first installation of the first processor, ordered new one with copper spacer. In the mean time, used a spare 1200 Duron and MOBO/system worked well with both win 98 se and XP Pro. Took system apart when the replacement XP 1900 processor arrived. Got the Biostar bios screen with no problem. Spent six hours reformatting the hard drive and attempting to reinstall win 98 SE. Evertime it would go to install win 98 it would hang up with multiple different types of protection erros and module errors. The video on the win 98se screen would decompose during the installation process. Tried everything imaginable with no success. Out of desperation cleared the CMOS and forgot to put the jumper back before booting. My question is - Did I damage anything?? The system is dead with no action once it is switched on. No beeps leds or hard drive movement. Is it the motherboard or processor that was damaged or both????? If not damaged, any suggestions of installing win 98 on this system after a duron system was installed.

Try putting the jumper back so the CMOS isn't cleared ever time you boot up. I don't you have damaged any hardware but the CMOS should be restored if the jumper is put back in.
With your other problem it maybe that Win 98 doesn't support XP processors that well, remeber that Win 98 SE is almost 5 years old and the XP processor has been out for only about half a year.

Thanks for the help. i think that I will cool off for one more day before going at it again. I also read somewhere about holding the insert key while powering the unit on. I did put the CMOS back to the normal position and that is when it was totally dead. I am hopeful that no damage has been done as this project was budgeted for 250, and I am now way over that with getting the replacement processor, shipping, etc.... Well at least the 1200 Duron system that I built for my sister works fine and kicks but! Thanks again for any and all input!!
